Okay moms...I want to know if anyone has any suggestions on what works to lessen or remove the appearance of stretch marks. I have lots of long & wide stretch marks (thanks to 2 big healthy babies) and they are still very apparent! I've seen, heard and read all the advertisments about creams, oils, etc...that are supposed to help. But, before I invest any money I want to know from REAL MOMS what works and what does not. So, any suggestions, opinions, or advice??

What can I do next?

Don't hold me to it, but Avon sells 2 different kinds of stretch mark cream, i have recently started using the clinical brand, from avon. I will have to let you know how it works down the road, but i've heard different people say it reduces the color and apperance of them! So its worth a try!
Ok but i got to say, Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter are good friends of mine!

Internal as well as external oils are important.
High Quality Omega 3 Fatty acids like Krill oil, Fish Oil, Flax oil (from the health food store)...I would avoid Wal-mart, or grocery / drug store brands of internal / edible oils.
Castor oil and Vitamin E oil topically work very well...you must be religious about applying the oils.
I used Rejuvenating Cream and Skin Conditioning oil from Arbonne before after and during my first pregnancy and didn't get a stretch mark. With my second child, I was not so faithful and have a LARGE newborn and new stretch marks (boo hoo:( ) I am now taking my own advice and will let you know my results... you may have to remind me:)

Let us know what works for you!

Happy New Year!

Vitamin E oil works well. I've also used Scar Zone and saw a definite difference in the darkness of the stretch marks.

Creams, oils and such will not work on bad stretch marks, only on the smaller lighter ones. I have huge purple ones from having my twins, I also have a c-section pouch that only grows as I continue to lose weight. Two Dr.s have told me that neither will go away unless I go see some sort of cosmetic surgeon and get a tummy tuck which will take care of both the "pouch" and stretch marks in that area.

I don't have the money for that but hopefully one day after I meet my ultimate weight loss goal, I can have enough saved up.

You can get a prescription from a dermatologist or GP for Tretinoin cream, which helps some with the stretchmarks, but won't completely get rid of them. My dermatologist said it is the only thing that will really help. I found that with consistent use it did help reduce the size and overall appearance of my stretchmarks.

Believe it or not, exercise really works. Tightening my skin after losing about 60 (yes, I said 60) pounds, my stretch marks all but disappeared--I was even able to wear a bikini again! No creams, no miracle cures, none of that mess. Drinking lots of water and simply exercising to tone your muscles and skin back up after losing the excess weight is really all it takes. Good luck.

Mederma works well but it is costly. As a nurse I know that vitamin E works very well but it will take a longer amount of time to see progress but it is a time of conserving money and it is much cheaper but you must be able to apply multiple times a day. Say after a bath and again at bedtime this should be a good time to get it done.

Pure Vitamin E. Buy the capsules in the Vit dept at Wal-mart and then pierce them with a pin or small sharp object. Squeeze out the vit E and place right on the stretch marks-about twice a day. allow to soak in. It works!!! I am a Nurse and have erradicated many a scar this way on myself and my 4yo. Good Luck. may take some time, just be patient. Let me know. Maderma scar solution is something else that works really well on large scars...Hope this helps. G. H

I have been using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil twice a day for about a month and have noticed a slight improvement. It has not been anything drastic but I am not sure how long it is supposed to take to see results. It also recommends using it three times a day and currently I only do twice because I don't have time to remember to do it three times. I have noticed some improvement which I figure is better than none.

I have tried quite a few different creams to includ all of the ones mentioned by others here. Nothing worked for me. I was told by someone a looong time ago that exercising would help & I didn't understand how that would work (I didn't have kids or stretch marks back then) but when I finally got my toosh in gear and started going to the gym to lose my baby weight I did actually see my stretch marks shrink and lose their brightness. You couldn't see them but when rubbing your hand over the are you could feel it still. The only way to really get rid of them is to have surgery. I'm working on the gym thing again and losing my baby weight from my second baby and when I reach my goal I will be rewarding myself with surgery to top off all of my hard work.

I tried Mederma for a while but it smells AWFUL. So I stopped. I've decided to accept the stretch marks as badges of motherhood and not to worry about them. :-]

Advice? Cry with relief that you don't look like me!!!!

More practically speaking? Laser surgery? I think? I really don't believe any of those creams work.
