Hoping to Make a Local Friend

Hi Mamas!

I'm writing this in hopes of making a good friend who is hopefully somewhat local to where I live. I am in east Elgin (near 90/Beverly Road).

I have many great friends but no one who is super local to me. Most are out of state or live too far to do anything spontaneous with. I'd love to find someone more local where if we're feeling like it, we can do something without much planning involved.

Anyone out there in the same boat, hoping to meet a local friend? I would of course love to find someone I can relate to so here's a little about me:

I am 33 years old; I'm mom to two boys, 2 and 7- obviously it's nice to find someone with kids of their age but not a priority- my kids have tons of friends; My hubby is awesome but a massive video game addict/couch potato who cringes at the thought of getting out in fresh air or doing something meaningful, etc- if it were up to him he'd play games 24/7 or be laid out on the couch watching TV; I am the opposite, I can't do something super long that is pointless- I'd rather get out with my kids- which sadly is 80% of the time by myself; Ironically, I guess you could say I support my hubby's addiction by working full time for the video game industry; I tend to read a lot- anything I can learn from; I love to be active but also love to unwind and relax; I am not religious, I have my own belief system and do not react well when someone trys to convert me to whatever they feel is correct; I am a professional but not to the extent it consumes my personality; I love to joke, laugh and am one of the most laid back people you will meet; I believe in appreciating life and I prefer good news over bad.

Oh- one more thing. I am very into natural methods of healthcare- last year I lost a friend because I begged her not to take a psychiatric drug (especially becuase she thought she was pregnant). So, I guess someone who will be offended by the fact I might try to talk you out of major drugs is probably not going to like me much. It's not that I'm against drugs (advil has been my friend for a LONG time!), I just think some "major" drugs are pushed way too hard and can do more harm then good in many circumstances.

Well, that's me! If I sound like someone you might get along with and you'd like to make a new friend too, I'm excited to hear from you! To be clear, I'm not expecting to meet someone who has tons of time on thier hands (who does?!) but if you'd love an extra buddy you can call to go with you to the park, pool, shopping, gym, whatever- I'm in! Also, if you relate to anything I've said about myself and are not local, I'm happy to hear from you too!

Hi AG:

I don't fit your profile, but I have an idea for you. While I do enjoy meeting strangers and participating in www.meetup.com I have been successful in meeting new friends via the www.meetup.com tool without even attending events. Another Mom befriended me this way, so I have done it a few times myself. We were both part of the same meetup group. She was cruising through the member profiles, saw mine and searched me out. We ended up with playdates outside of the group with our sons and we actually really enjoy each others company too. Even our husbands have participated in a few outings with us. We have been friends for over 2 years now. Give it a try - you never know. Good luck!

i just want to let you know that meetup.com has many different moms groups and most "group" outing can be 1 or 2 momms and so many moms are busy with their younger children its not like its a mass mom gathering. I started with a group a year ago and now have a pretty tight group of friends from the group, and we hang out regularly. The great thing about it is that they are all different ages and backgrounds and had it not been for the group setting I likely would have never come across some of these awesome mamas! It took 6 months to really get to know people regularly but it is worth it. Not only that but it is great to have that socialization for your child. I would reconsider meetup and realize each moms group is a litttle different so join a few at first and then narrow down the one that is right for you. Good luck finding some new mommy friends!

i just reread your post and I am the same way about being natural (actually starting the process of getting my BS so I can become and ND) and I am not religious at all so please email me and we can chat a bit ____@____.com

I'm sorry you feel lonely - my husband is a video gamer/couchpotato sort of person too. In fact when I joined a moms group 3 years ago he said, "you are going to show up somewhere where you don't know anyone???" This sort of thing can be out of my comfort zone but realized I needed to do something to get out of the house and be social again. My husband is not into making new friends - since he lives close to where he grew up (I don't )he still see's his old high school friends and couldn't care less if he ever made another friend.......So, he and I are different and you and I the same in that respect - need to reach out a little.

I'd be happy to meet up with you - I live in Lake in the Hills so not too far away from where you are - only problem is you would probably disagree with a few things I do. I've gone through terrible pregnancy depression and take a low dose of antidepressants currently (I am 8 months pregnant) in addition I believe medicine does have it's place when necessary. However, not everyone has the exact beliefs as others and I am open-minded. I've had many "natural" friends and can see both sides. So, if you'd like to meet up for coffee (decaf for me please) let me know - I do only have a few weeks left in my pregnancy but will be on maternity leave for 12 weeks after Dec. 19th.

Hi!
I read your post and was drawn to respond.

I can't say I am out looking for new friends, as I have a hard time keeping up with the ones I have, but we seem to have a good amount in common.

I am 27 years old, former chiropractic assistant and now SAHM to a 7yr old boy, 2yr old girl, and 9mo old boy. I live in Batavia, and am extremely natural minded (I have been known to offend people or am known as "extreme" among friends).

My hubby LOVES to watch TV and would die without his HD DVR. He works outside (bricklayer) therefore never wants to be outdoors with us. I love to be outside, read/research, shop, and sleep (currently sleep deprived).

We are a lighthearted, nonreligious, busy family who are pretty laid back about life.

If anything I wrote catches your eye, shoot me a message. If not, bo biggie.

I sincerely hope you find someone to build a strong friendship with!

Good luck!

C.
