Hey mamas,

I have 3 month old beautiful baby girl! However, I have no friends with kids. How do I meet other mamas with babies? All of my "friends" are young and still into partying. They don't even ask about my daughter :(. Let me know what I can do to meet mommies. Hope everyone out there is having a wonderful day!

Thanks,
J. and baby Bethany :)

I moved here when my daughter was 2 months old and knew no one. I got to know a lot of people fast by joining a MOMS group, going to a family center that offers classes and free play time once a week, going to Music and Movement (free program) once a week at the library, and setting up coffee/chat time with other moms I had just met. Now a year later I know a LOT of people and have a pretty busy social schedule! Good luck finding friends!!!

Check out story time at the library. If there is a Y near you look into some activities there. The Park and Rec department may have activities.

If you hurry, you can get into a MOPS or MOMS group before the summer break. That is where I made friends to get together with.

Join an early childhood PTA! That's how I met other moms with kids under 5 in my neighborhood. It's been great. Just search Irving and early childhood PTA. I know there's several in Dallas and in Plano, Allen & Frisco. Surely there's one in Irving!

Definitely look for a mom's group like Mothers and More (www.mothersandmore.org) in your area. They can provide you with a social outlet for both you and Bethany through mom activities, playgroups, and mom and tot outings. Congratulations on your new bundle!

3 months is still young, but maybe walking the stroller around the park.
If you belong to a church, sometimes, in the nursery you will see other infants her same age.. You guys could start a moms group.

Stroller around your neighborhood.

If you see a mom breastfeeding at the park, maybe sit down next to her and start a conversation..

Did you and your husband take birthing classes? Do you have any names and numbers of other couples from that class? Maybe ask your birthing instructor to hand out flyers about putting together a moms group of new infants.

Does your husband work with others people that have infants or toddlers.. maybe have a little happy hour at your home.

We had neighbors that we had no idea they were also pregnant until we started seeing each other with babies. We start just meeting in each others yards and drive ways with our folding chairs and inviting others to join us.. This worked great on Friday afternoons..

Church. You can volunteer in the nursery and meet a whole lot of moms. There are always activities going on at church. Sometimes you babysit and sometimes other people babysit. But the activities are always free and kids are always welcome, so you dont have to pay a sitter.

These are all great places to meet other moms.
It helps.

If you are nursing go to LeLeche League. They have meetings with other moms who discuss their baby issues. There are picnics, meetings and personal interactions.
Birth to Three is another parenting group.

Years ago I was in your situation. I signed my daughter up for The Little Gym near where we lived at the time. They put us in a group with the same aged children. I ended up organizing a mom's group from the mom's that were interested in talking with me at the class. They ended up being some of my very best friends. We have moved a couple of times to other states since then and I am still in contact with them. It has been 10 years! give it a try and don't be afraid to actually talk with the other moms. Once you get to know them at the gym, invite them over with their babies. Also, don't overlook the grandmas and babysitters that are there every time with the kids. I invited them too and they were great! I also was able to meet the mom's through them!

Good luck!

Click your account at the top right hand of the page(then your inbox)...I sent you a PM...that is ONE way to get to know other Moms!!!!
It IS hard to meet when you have such a little one. I, too, had to just "rid" my life of ,"hey!, lets go to such and such bar tonight!" Its hard when your 'old" life" tries to inject into your "new" life.

Hang in there!!!

I met the best moms ever through a group I joined on meetup.com!! Love my moms club, I don't think I could survive this whole motherhood things without them :)
I also met some moms through the library story time but that took much longer. After going to story time and seeing the same kids again and again some of us moms just started talking.

Stroller Strides or Gymboree.... We started my daughter at Gymboree around the time she was 8 months. She is now nearly 4 and these women are my closest friends and our children love each other. :) It is very nice to have women to talk to who have children going through the same stage as your child! :)

Look into a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group. Even though it sounds like it is a group for moms with older children than yours it is not. I have been involved with my group for 2 years now and there are a variety of ages (moms and children). The group usually holds their meeetings at a local church. The group meets every other week for a couple of hours with free childcare provided.
I don't know how large your community is, but you can check the internet (maybe a local news station website) for information about a mom's group for playdates and other activities. Often local community centers, parks and rec, or the library will offer fun activities that are free or ridiculously cheap. I enrolled my son in Gymboree when he was 6 weeks old. I met some great mom friends through that too. Good luck!

If you're a stay at home mom, there are lots of options. Check www.momsclub.org to see if there's an Irving group (I would bet there's more than one). MOMS Club is non-religious, and its sole purpose is to support stay at home moms. MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers - though anyone with kids under 5 is welcome) probably also has some chapters near you. They are Christian-based, though how religious they are seems to vary depending on the church they meet at (from what I understand; I was only a member of one chapter, but I've talked to moms from other MOPS groups whose chapters varied).

I've done the parks and rec classes, Kindermusik, Gymboree, etc., but I found that the best way to meet other moms was in a group like MOMS Club or MOPS.

And don't worry most of your friends will fall into the mommy role and will come back. We always do.

I haven't looked into it yet, but I have heard about a network called MOPS. My guess it that it stands for Moms Of Pre Schoolers. I am in VA and don't know if the network is local or national. Even though your DD isn't a pre-schooler, this is probably a good launching point. Plenty of pre schoolers have younger siblings!
