Does anyone out there have or know of any remedies that I can take to help night sweats and hot flashes? I'm 40 years old and had a full hysterectomy last September. Within the past couple of weeks things have gotten terrible for me. I will wake twice a night soaking wet. I've had to bring a fan to my office and keep it blowing on me all day. The hot flashes come and go but can be severe. A co- worker suggested I try Estroven (over the counter)for the spells I'm having. I've taken it for 8 days now and no change. I realize it can take anywhere from 10-30 to feel any relief. I really appreicate any advice.

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. I'm calling my doctor today to see what he says. When I had my surgery he did put me on a very low odse hormone Enjuvia and I really hated how it made me feel. Also, my nails became brittle my hair was dull and let's not talk about my skin. He told me in the beginning that taking the hormone was my choice, some women do and some don't. I'm going to ask about the patch that was mentioned and see what he says. As for the Estroven, today is day nine and my hot flashes are notas intense and not as many. Last night I had a sweat free night!! Again, thank you to everyone!!

In case you haven't heard of adaptogens, they are a category of herbs that help the body deal with stress, restore balance, and support normal metabolic processes. (A lot has been discussed recently about adaptogens, even Oz on Oprah).

Click on the one called "Ignite". It not only enhances male performance, but it also has many benefits for women. The ingredient Passion Flower also helps to relieve the symptoms of PMS and menopause, such as sleeplessness and frustration. I would recommend you pick up the book "What you doctor may not tell you about menopause" by Dr. John Lee. I read the one on premenopause and found it to be very informative and it allowed me to make an educated decision about hormone and vitamin supplementation.

I have found that cutting out caffeine helped me with night sweats and hot flashes. But keep in mind that what may work for one may not work for another because everyones chemistry is different, so try each one atleast 60 - 90 days to determine what works for you. Best of luck.

I had a complete hysterectomy at 40 and I have worn the Vivelle Dot patch ever since (2001).

I've had no issues at all with side effects, hot flashes, etc. I just slap that patch on once a week. It is small and I can still wear my bikini and skimpy stuff without it being noticable.

It is a miracle drug for me.

Good luck.

Hi L.,
Take it from me & my experience, you should just go to your dr. and let them discuss & perscribe a hormone. I had a complete hyst. at 30 & trying over the counter stuff as well as herbs & vitamins, lol, you can't beat a perscription for what you are going through.
Yes I know there are thousands of nightmare stories about hormone theropy but trust your dr. & have faith in God that you will be safe & ok. I messed around for 9 yrs before I gave in. Please don't put yourself & your family through it. Now at 55, still not having any problems from them.( 14 yrs. )
I'm sorry you're going throught this but it will get better. God bless you & yours.

I hear you. I suffered hot flashes from when I was 37. I am now 45. Don't do alot of over the counter medication like estrogen because of futuristic situations with breast cancer. I found a natural product that I have been using and have had no flashes since and my blood pressure has been regulated. I no longer take my blood pressure medications. I had headches that landed me in hospitals, but now I am ok.

I had the same problem. The OTC or other natural remedies did not work for me. Finally my doctor put me on the lowest dose of Clonodine. It is a med for high blood pressure. This was like a miracle drug for me.
It worked within 3 days. I take it at night because it does have a side effect of drowsiness. I can now actually sleep through the night now.

A lady I know did some research on magnesium and found that it can really help with menapausal symptoms. But not the type you would buy at Wal-Mart. Solgar has a good one, cheleated magnesium. That and a good multivitamin. If your symptoms get too bad, I heard short term estrogen replacement can benefit you. As long as you are not in high risk category for taking it.

You also may try finding a good health food store, and ask them what they recommend. Just always make sure if you are taking any prescription meds that you check for interactions before taking a natural herbal remedy.

Hope this gives you some ideas anyway.

I am not able to take any hormones for menopause symptoms because of having a stroke. I immediately experienced all the hot flashes and night sweats. My relief came when I introduced soy products (I love the light chocolate soy milk)and taking vitamin E. I went through those symptoms for about 4 years. I still follow this regime but have tapered off the amounts. Hope this helps!

I have taken Estroven for over a year and it has worked great for me. It did take about 3-4 weeks to really feel the improvement and when I stopped taking it also took a month to stop working. If you have not had a checkup in a while, I would also check with your doctor just to be sure that something else is not going on. I think that 40 is a little young to start having hot flashes, but I know that everyone is different. I am 52 and did not start having them until 50.

L., I had a hysterectomy too after my youngest daughter was born. I was 36. The ONLY thing that helped me was Estrogen, which you have to get from your Doctor. I also tried the over the counter meds, but they did not help. I took Estrogen (Premarin) for several years then slowly stopped taking it on my own. There is some controvery about taking it, which changes from year to year, but I never had any problems. I still have hot flashes but they're not as bad or as often. Also, wearing clothing made of 100% cotton has helped. I also buy bedding that is 100% cotton. I still sleep with a fan on all the time. My heart goes out to you! It's horrible having the hot flashes, especially if you've just put on your makeup and sweat it all off. Bless your heart! I hope this helps.

I had a complete hysterectomy at 29, I'm currently 41. So I feel your pain. It's been a struggle for me. But my first question is: Are you on HRT? If you're not, you need to be. There's alot of options out there, pills, patches and sprays. It's just a matter of finding the right thing for you.
For me, the cycle has been that I have to change my therapy every 6 - 24 months. I finally found a doctor that specializes in hormones. They do not practice obstetrics in this office. They did a full battery of blood & urine tests to determine what my needs are before we proceed. Believe it or not, it's the first time in 11 years anyone has done this. It's been trial & error up to now. I'm scheduled to go back for the results in April.
Currently I'm on Evamist. It was great for about 6 months, then I started having hot flashes, my skin is really drying out, and I'm starting to have sleep issues again. I'm very anxious to get my results.
Let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to help you with...
BTW, the new doc gave me a bottle of evening primrose that's supposed to be a natural supplement to help the hot flashes.
Vivelle Dot was a miracle drug for me too, until I developed an allergy to the adhesive... I agree, no side effects, very convenient, loved it for 2 years.
Good luck!

Helen Pasanti's hormore cream works beautifully. I also had a hystrectomy at 40. You used to be able to buy it at
Krogers, however I know she has a website and I'm sure you can order it. Helen is a an MD and was also trained by the "master" of hormone treatment, Dr. Lee.

I am going through menopause and when the hot flashes hit me two years ago, they were devastating. I had them throughout the day and every hour at night. My OB/GYN put me on Prempro, a low dosage hormone. I was not exited about it but, he said it was the lowest dosage and would not be a problem. I took it for 6 months and then stopped and I still have hot flashes but not as bad as in the beginning. Be careful about what you take over the counter and from Health Food/Vitamin stores. I really trust my doctor and he is very conservative. His own wife had breast cancer and died from another cancer so, I know he is very careful about what he prescribes. Keep ice water handy day and night and look into buying a Chillow Pillow. Google it. They say they are great. Watch your spicy foods and drinks that trigger the hot flashes. There is a website called Menopauz??? that offers much free advice. I wish you luck because it is a miserable feeling. If you google menopause, you will find volumes of websites that can offer help.

Hi L.,
I suffered with hot flashes and night sweats and started on a product called Woman's Choice--oh, they were horrible! I wanted to find something all natural, so these were perfect. I pumped 3 of the tablets, 3 times a day, and within 3 days my hot flashes and night sweats were gone! I continued doing the same for 2 weeks, then weaned down to 2, 3 times a day for 2 more weeks. Now, I do 1, 3 times a day and after 5 years, have had only 1 hot flash that lasted about 2 seconds. I call that success....and I've helped over 10 women get rid of their hot flashes and night sweats too, so I know this works for not only me, but for others. If you're serious about relieving yourself...you can call me: ###-###-#### or order directly from my website: derweightlossmall.com. Either way, you have a 30 day money back guarantee...humm....all you can lose are the hot flashes and night sweats! What a deal for this day and time!

I look forward to talking with you!
