My son was sick last week. He had 2 episodes of vomiting one day and since then has not been eating wel.
My daughter woke up at 130 last night and has been vomiting every half an hour.

I did go to the drug store and they had a drug called "emetrol" for vomiting.. but the active ingredient was sugar.... I didnt want to pay $9 for a bottle of sugar.

anyone have things that helped settle little tummies and stop the vomiting at your house.

Emetrol is a MIRACLE med! I used it all through my childhood, and just had to use it on my 3 year old son last week too. It worked like a charm! First dose is always the one that works. I don't know why or how it works, but I am blown away at the stuff. $9 is definetly something I would pay to ease the suffering :( I hated to see my son so sick.

We tried the sips of water every 15 mins, the pedialyte, the plain toast, popcicles... nothing stayed down. It became a dehydration issue, so using the emetrol made it so we could slowly start to give him fluids. I agree with whatever is making them sick needs to come out, my mom thought the same way when I was a child. She didn't give me the emetrol right away, but when theres nothing left to vomit, and you still are... something has to give.

I always keep gingerale in the house during flu season. It soothes the tummy and puts back fluids. If the carbonation bothers them, my doctor would recommend letting it go flat.

Try some plain crackers, like Zwiebach. My mom always gave us a little bit of vernors or coke-a-cola. I remember thinking it was the best medicine ever!

I let it run it's course. Unfortunately you almost have to. Be sure to have plenty of fluids on hand. Sugar does help to ease the nausea for me personally. But you have some of the same affects by using Jello water (add a teaspoon into a cup of lukewarm water so it dissolves), ginger ale (the ginger helps to settle a stomach) or pedialite (sp?) as this puts back into the body the necessary electrolytes and salt (that balances the body of lost fluids.).

Make sure you are washing your hands so you too do not become ill. (This happens to us at our house depending on the bug and I would not wish it on anyone to have both parents down after your child has been sick!)

After the vomiting has subsided for a bit, you can start with the 'Brat' diet (Banana's, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.)

We went through something to the extreme when my son had a virus similar to the Rotovirus back a few years ago. Not fun as he was hospitalized. I recommend watching your girl for signs of dehydration~ you may have to take her in if the vomiting continues so the doctors can keep her hydrated.

Good Luck~

Vomiting is one way the body gets rid of something that is not agreeing with it. The body needs to make sure it has itself cleaned out. If you really feel the need to do something I have found the children's Keopectat works well as does Mylanta.

If they can keep it down a little plain yogurt with active cultures will also help a bit to replace the necessary good bacteria and stuff in their tummies.

To settle tummies one of the best things that ever worked for us as kids and still does is warm Coke or Ginger Ale. The ginger helps sooth the stomach. When I was pregnant with my son I lived on Ginger Snaps and Ginger biscuits/cookes, anything with ginger in it, even just plain ginger if they can handle it.

Good luck.

We had this pass through our house a few weeks ago. I called the pediatrician and the nurse told us to go at least 1 hour without giving them anything at all, not even water, their bellies just need a rest from everything to feel better. Then only give them a tablespoon of Pedialite or gatorade every 15 minutes until they go for an hour or so without any problems and then increase slowly. They also told us to do the ABC diet when getting them back into eating. Applesauce, bananas, cereal. It took a few days for them to really get back to normal and start eating more.

Hi Lisa. The rule I was given when my kids were little were that they do not eat or drink for 4 hours and then you start with a very small amount of water. If that stays down, try chicken noodle soup and vernors. It's always worked for our family. Hope this helps, L. S.

Please be careful about dehydration. I used to use coke syrup from the pharmacist when my kids were small or just cola or ginger ale or 7-up that I let go flat, and only in sips. The doctors always recommended that. Now they have that stuff that balances electrolytes - pedialyte. We never understood the risk of dehydration back then but it's important to get fluids into them if you can. When I had a recent surgery, the nurse said that water makes you throw up so to only sip pop. Apparently this is simple technique is still used, even tho we don't like to give small children pop as a rule.

Your Son either had a small touch of it where he was a carrier and brought into the house. Or he just had an acid reflux thing that happens occasionally and your daughter contracted the flu. Your daughter can't keep water down than she has the flu. It sounds like she does and unfortunatly you just need to let her body run its course and as soon as she can handle water. Give her the brats (banana,Rice, apple, toast, and soup) diet with gaterade or pedialite. Take care good luck!

I am not sure your gonna like this, but when i worked full time and my sitter was watching my children and they had a stomach bug.. she used to give them coke syrup to settle their stomach. There are two ways of doing this. First, go to pharmacy and hey sell coke syrup or buy a 20-oz bottle of coke and shake it till the fizz comes out and its completely flat and warm and give them a tspn of it till their tummys are better.. Good luck and spray lysol !
