I often see moms asking for parenting and behavior management advice. Have any of the moms on this list taken a parenting class that was helpful? If so, what was it called, where was it and how did you hear about it? Would you recommend this class to others?
Thanks for your help.

I live in Georgetown. My mom runs "Bridges to Growth" which is part of the Georgetown Project and they offer different child development classes and activities and occasionally parenting classes. My fiance' and I just attended one there which lasted about an hour and a half and talked about an approach which was appropriate for use with children from toddlers to teens which I thought was great. Their # is ###-###-####.

Go to www.familyconnectionsonline.org for a wide range of classes. They vary as to when they have classes, and not always teen classes. Their number is ###-###-#### and you can talk with Mary Robinson. Mary runs a summer camp for teens which is very positive and wonderful - www.wetwildcamp.com

Also excellent therapists for teens - and parents too, Lynn Henton, PhD ###-###-#### and Annie Drake, who just wrote a book about living with teens, ###-###-####. Of further help is Child Guidance, ###-###-#### - a contact there is a woman named Sherri- she is fantastic! Child Guidance has a waiting list but they have all kinds of resources and once in, group therapy for teens, parents, etc.... - a good variety for everyone's needs.

I am passionate about parenting and have taken so many classes I can't remember them all. They all have helped and added to the arsenal of tools I now have in my toolbox. My favorite by far is a class that I bumped into at St. Andrew's. My kids don't go there but a friend of mine does and she invited me to attend. The class is called Restitution and it is based on a book called "My Child is a Pleasure" by Diane Gossen. Email me if you are interested and I will put you in touch with the person that leads the class.

My church also teaches the Love and Logic courses (http://unityhills.org/) but I don't think there are any going on right now.

I've also taken the Language of Listening classes - very helpful for all ages. (http://www.languageoflistening.com/)

My husband and I took the love and logic class. It has a lot of good ideas of how to raise good kids that are prepared for the real world. I know that there are churches that will teach this and I believe that you can get books about it at Barns and Nobel. We took it at our church, Holy Word Lutheran in Austin. You might be able to check out there website to see if they are going to have another class anytime soon. I have heard of many people using the love and logic method and my whole church as well as the school uses it. It was very helpful and my church teaches it at a very good price. They don't do it to make money, it was just the cost of the supplies and food. I hope this helps.
