I am a single mother with two young daughters. I would like to take my daughters on a vacation this summer to a beach destination. Was wondering if anyone can recommend an affordable and fun place. Thank you in advance for your recommendations.

I love Quintana Beach...do a goolge search, they have beach houses for rent that are very reasonable.

Try Destin, Florida. Great beach, waterpark, and only 10 hour drive from Houston.

We often take our 4 kids on weekend getaways and found that both Galveston and Corpus Christi are fun and affordable places to visit with kids.

Galveston is closest and quite affordable, you can rent small condos for a little over $100 a night and they include a kitchenette (which is nice with kids!). We have stayed at the Victorian. It is right down on the water and pretty nice with good rates. It also has a swimming pool and a young childrens pool. Things to do with kids in galveston are Moody Gardens, Rainforest Cafe, swimming at the hotel, fishing, hanging out at the beach, and visiting a nature preserve. It is about an hours drive.

Corpus Christi has much more to do, tourism wise and the beaches are nicer. We also seem to spend much more money when we have gone there. The drive is about 4 hours, which is hard when they are younger.

Look for rentals in Bolivar Penninsula - It's Crystal Beach and you take the ferry from Galveston to Bolivar. I have used Buster Martin & Assoc to rent beach homes in the past. But check the chamber of commerce home page

I have taken my 2 children to South Padre Island and it can be affordable, you just have to look around, we even got to stay at a hotel right on the beach!

Kemah is always nice, although, not very affordable. what about good ol' galveston, they are opening a schlitterbaun there. it will be open by summer!

For a short getaway, I'd say that Galveston and Padre Island are probably your best bet. BUT...if you're looking for an extended stay - I have to agree with the Mama who suggested Destin, FL. We go there every other year...the beaches are BEAUTIFUL and there are tons of fun "beachy things" to do with kids.
