Do You like to Sleep Cuddled up to Your Man (Or Woman?)

My husband is a big time cuddler. He loves it. He LOVES to sleep cuddled up to my back ("Spooning"). Me? ... Not so much...

Now don't get me wrong, I do like cuddling... While I'm awake. I love cuddling up on the couch to watch a movie, or cuddling up in bed after sexy time... Heck, even a few minutes of cuddle time right after we wake up or right before we go to bed is fine. But I can not sleep with hubby cuddled up to my back. I usually have a hard time falling asleep. I need to toss and turn a bit to find a comfortable position. And then when I do find a comfortable position, the second I feel trapped in that position (Like, if hubby cuddles up behind me) that position suddenly becomes very uncomfortable. Sleep time cuddling just pisses me off because I'm usually very tired and just want to go to sleep. And if hubby tries to cuddle up behind me in the middle of the night when I'm already asleep? I ALWAYS wake up and can NEVER just fall back asleep.

Am I the only one who just can't sleep and cuddle at the same time?

I need my space when I sleep, and there is no way my husband could spoon me without getting in the mood.

I can do it for about five minutes and then it's a kiss goodnight and got to my own side of the bed. There's a reason we have a queen sized bed and not a full, y'know?

I could have written exactly what you wrote. Thanks for the affirmation that I can still love my husband! He worries about that; I just like to sleep without someone holding me in place!

I cuddle after sex......sometimes.
I can NOT sleep cuddled up. I toss and turn a lot. I sleep hot. I can't stand sleepign when he is BREATHING on me. It just makes me crazy, awake, and cranky.
So, we climb into bed, kiss goodnight (or something else! lol) and then each turn to our own sides.
bliss.

LOL this may be TMI. After one particularly long, nasty stand-off in our marriage my husband and I were in a phase where we were actively trying to reconnect with and be nice to each other. We fell asleep one night "spooned" and it was so nice and warm, snuggly and cuddly. I remarked "why did we ever stop sleeping this way?" as we drifted off to sleep. Well we figured it out in the morning when we woke up and he was, um, standing at attention. Big time. We don't really have time to take care of that kind of thing in the morning so he said "yeah, now I remember why we don't sleep wrapped together my day starts off like this..."

So I can fall asleep spooning/cuddling but we need to separate during the night or I'm woken up earlier than I want to be woken up by a horny husband looking for a morning quickie.

OMG I have to have my own "space" and my own side, when I sleep.
And I just need to be sleeping my own way.

So I guess yeah, I can't be all confined when I sleep.
Hate it.

Hah - I'm right there with Birdsfreakmeout - if my husband starts breathing on me I kick him so he rolls over!

Actually when we started going out almost 20 years ago we did the spooning thing every night. But as we've gotten older we definitely don't do it any more. He sleeps too lightly, I like to sprawl out on my side, and he's cold while I'm hot.

A compromise that I really like is just reaching my foot over so it touches his at night (almost like holding hands but with feet). Maybe this would work out? Or just print out all our responses to show him that you aren't the only one who doesn't want to cuddle!

DH and I have had separate bedrooms for almost all of our blissful 21+ years of marriage. He snores and sleeps with a cpap machine, I'm a light sleeper. It works for us. I'm not much of a cuddler and neither is he. I would never be able to sleep the way you've described. I think it's time to either gently tell DH it's just not working for you or maybe get a big body sized pillow to put between you so he has something to cuddle up to?

Haha, I can't believe the answers are so one-sided!

We love to cuddle and do so every night. He spoons me or I spoon him, our legs twist together just so. Even though we recently upgraded from a queen bed to a cal king, we both sleep on one side or the middle of the bed.

On rare occasions, my husband or I am restless, in which case we give the other one space to fall asleep. But we always find each other in the middle of the night. Just one of our love languages I guess. :)

We both love to snuggle and cuddle. He usually tickles my back, neck and head as we lay together talking. Then at some point we get sucked to opposite sides of our CA King bed. It is almost as if we are gripping on for dear life to the sides of the bed...but we both just happen to sleep that way. I can't believe we never fall off. You could fit a small army between us!

If we slept together all snuggly warm and wrapped in eachother's arms then you'd find us lying in a puddle of sweat in the morning!! Yuck!!

So..we snuggle then roll..and roll ..and roll to opposite sides.

BUT..the cat hasn't caught onto this. She somehow always finds herself snuggled in our crotches or spooned behind our legs. She didn't get the memo! But 12 pound fluffy is different than my 185 lb hunk of burning love :) ..emphasis on the "burning"

We usually fall asleep snuggling. Either me on his chest, him spooning me, or some variation of legs entangled. But we usually wake up in the morning on our own side of the bed. Then as we hit snooze over and over, we snuggle some more. Here's way too much info... I don't like to spoon as much as he does because he claims I fart in my sleep, thus "poofing" on his leg. I've heard it enough that I feel "on guard" when in that position. I can't help what I do in my sleep, ya know? LOL! Surprisingly, he still wants to spoon. Go figure!

I do like to sleep with a warm body touching me. Spooning is good if at some point we move somewhat apart. I like to feel the warmth of a body nearby even then. When I first started sleeping with someone I did feel claustrophobic. It takes awhile to adjust to each others needs for closeness and space. I do like to cuddle once I know that I can move when I want to.

Feeling someone's skin against mine is comforting. During stressful times I've found that sleeping with someone is helpful. No sex; just sleep. I think that I learned this way of coping because I slept with my mother during difficult times.

My grandchildren slept with me and I loved it when they curled up against me. I miss that.

I feel ya!! My husband is the same way. But after being married 8 years he knows better. When its time for sleep we kiss goodnight and that is it! I turn my way and he turns his. If he tries to cuddle with me at night he will get a cold shoulder every. single. time. Cannot stand it! Don't keep me awake and don't wake me up! Seriously!
