I have a 2 year old sweet boy that I have been blessed to stay at home with up until now. Currently, I am trying to get a job with a local school district as a classroom aide. I am currentlyworking on my bachelors degree to y hopefully become an actual teacher in 2 years. Right now I want to gain the experience and get on with a district I could actually teach at. However, I have not been offered a job so it looks as though I may substitute teach instead. I know substitute teaching can be random and it concerns me having a 2 year old. It is expensive to put him in drop in daycare but do not want to pay for full=time daycare if I only sub 1-2 days that week. Of course my biggest concern is finding a wonderful daycare or an individual that has a great curriculum and he is very loved. Do you mama's know of a terrific daycare or individual that you would highly recommend either in the South Arlington, Kennedale, or Mansfield area that may work with me on this situation. I know eventually I will probably be busy subbing but for the first few months of school, I may not. I would love to get your opinions and on a wonderful daycare that I can relax while I am at school knowing he is being taken care of.

What can I do next?

I would strongly suggest you check out the Child Care resource and Referral service for our area. For $10 you can get a completely customized search based on cost, location, if they offer drop in or extended hours, etc.
I wish I had known about this when I was looking for child care!
They also have free checklists on what to look for and how to measure "quality" in a child care program.

I would definitely recommend Children's University on Park Springs, but they are pricey, so it depends what your budget is. They are great and they teach the kids a lot. They teach a year ahead, so the kids are always advanced.
They are NOT a daycare - they are a school, but they start the kids at 18 months. Good luck.

I would definitely find out how much daycare will cost and see if you can really make enough money subbing to cover the cost of daycare and have any money left. Substitute teaching is very different from being a real teacher. You might gain better experience from going and observing experienced teachers at several different schools. You can really pick up a lot about a school just by observing. Good luck!
