Hello mamas!! I decided yesterday that I wanted to go buy a new cook book and make every recipe in the book. A new recipe everyday. Then when the book is done donate it or swap it w/someone else. My question to you all is: Do you have a cookbook you can recommend? I have two children, 14 and 5. The 5 yesr old is picky, but part of the reason for wanting to do this is to introduce new food, esp veggies, to our palate!! I love to cook so one that has more complex meals is fine. Family friendly is what I'm looking for. Oh and if you have ones I should avoid please share those as well. Thanks ladies!

The New Basics is the best bookbook I've ever seen. It's a step above typical Betty Crocker fare. I've never had a bad meal out of it. Much of it is family friendly, but there are recipes that I wouldn't serve kids (or me actually - not a fan of some of the over-the-top extravagant recipes that call for pate or caviar).

You can't go wrong with The Betty Crocker Cookbook. Check out thrift shops and you can often find good general information cookbooks for a fraction of the cost.

The Moosewood Cookbook, especially for using more veggies and fruit. Easy to understand recipes many with variations to experiment with, and really delicious, too. The better the cook you are, the more you will appreciate it.

Any of the 30-Minute Meals books by Rachael Ray should do the trick. I almost never cook the same thing twice. Don't get me wrong, I've got a handful of family-favorites, but for the most part it's just a matter of me getting bored & not wanting to prepare & eat the same thing(s) over & over. My kids love that we eat all different types of foods from all over the world. My 10 year old daughter actually said to me a few months ago that she loved that we don't always eat "American foods" which to her is burgers, tacos, etc.

Wow! You are brave!! I love to cook and luckily my kids eat more fruit and veggies than anything else, but WOW! I don't like a lot of stuff (vinegar, mushrooms, olives to name a few) so I can't do every recipe - but go you!!

I LOVE the Hungry Girl recipe books :).

I think a Betty Crocker or Taste of Home cookbook are always good go-to's. Solid, time and kitchen-tested family fare with some specialties thrown in for parties.

I like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Americas-Kitchen-Cookbook-...

It has lots of familiar recipes that your family will enjoy, plus some interesting and more exotic things as well.

I love that you are planning to cook every recipe, I have been toying with that idea as well, but haven't tried it yet. Good luck!
