Ladies-

While we have hardwood floors, my parents have wall to wall carpeting. The pooch, had a recent bout of accidents. Also, they fraciously take care of our darling 5 month old while hubby and I are at grad school and work. Ordinarily we would have rented a steam cleaner from the local Home Depot, but with a view towards many years of spits ups, and spills ahead of us, I thought a steam cleaner is the way to go.

Any recommendations?
1. is the machine light and easy to use?
2. is it easy to maintain?
3. does it clean dirt and odors?
4. does it tackle pet stains?
5. does it leave teltale "clean spots" if you use it for spot cleaning?
6. can you use it for stairs and upholstery?
7. does it cause the carpets to wear?
8. does it have an adequate "tank"?
9. does it leave the carpets dry?

I'd love to hear what you have loved, and what you have found a real nuisance.

Thanks a bunch.

What can I do next?

I have a Hoover Steamvac and I don't know how I ever lived without it! My husband calls me the "steam queen". Lol. I am always steaming the kids rooms, cat puke, the couches, etc. It was reasonably priced, it is very easy to use, does not leave "spots" and it dries the carpet really easily. Comes with attachments for stairs, couches, etc.

My husband got "Little Green" made by Bissell for a spill of a blue chemical cleaner on the tan carpet of his boat. It cleaned it up perfectly. Since then we've used it at home to clean up the poop, pee, & puke of our 3 young children as well as so many multi-colored spills on our tan carpeting.
It's compact, lightweight, easy to use, and has cleaned up every mess we've had so far without any stain.
I highly recommend it!

I have a Bissell Pro Heat and LOVE it. We have 3 dogs and there are going to be oopsie moments.

We only have carpet in the family areas. We clean our carpets as needed which may mean every other month if it looks like it needs it.

This Bissell is my 2nd Bissell and I had a Hoover Steam Vac first (also a good machine). I like this one because.... it keeps the water HOT for the steam cleaning, it has good suction, we can also clean the stairs with it, we don't clean upholstery because we have leather, I have cleaned a white fabric Coach purse that turned out beautifully. It is not the lightest machine out there but it is very easy to use.

We use the Hoover Pet solution and like it a lot. When I cleaned the purse, I used a little of my All HE laundry detergent with a touch of clorox and that worked well. I actually have cleaned the carpets with the All HE/clorox solution and the carpets look great.

It does have a drier on it but the carpets are not dry as soon as you are done. It does take a little while for them to completely dry but that does not bother us.

I've not notied any extra wear on the carpets. We have a high quality pad and carpet and it still looks new in many areas and we built this house 10 yrs ago.

The machine is around $300

I purchased a wonderful cleaner from Wal-mart last year when I got a puppy. It's a Bissell Pro-Heat Pet 12amp. I bought the Great Value pet cleaning solution to use with it. I paid $149 for it last June.

Between the 4 year old and the puppy..it does a wonderful job. I still use it from time to time because the puppy gets "exited" when company comes and the 4 yr old still spills drinks.

Check it out. You won't be disappointed. It is not light weight, but very manageable.
