Breast Reduction-Just the Beginning

Ok, so I've decided to take the plunge finally. After years of dealing with back, neck, shoulder pain, my Dr. is taking notes and following steps for insurance. I have a shoulder issue too but that's another issue. Anyways..I have degenerative changes and arthritis in my back/spine x rays. For those of you that had this surgery what's the next step? Or what was your next step? I've re-read some of the past posts and it's been very helpful. I was told by Spring I could possibly have surgery. I'm excited to get the DD's out of my life. Any input or stories you can share will be most helpful.

What can I do next?

Make sure your doctor is board certified and that he or she has done a lot of reductions. The pain after is not bad, just be sure to follow the rules about lifting, if it splits open you could end up with a good size scar. Over all, it was the best thing I have ever done for myself, and my sister and 2 cousins who have had it done agree, well worth it! I went from an H to a C. My back, shoulder, and neck pain were better from day one.

I gave myself a breast reduction for turning 40! I had put up with huge ta tas for too long. I was like a 38F or so. It was all covered by my insurance. It is considered out patient was I was only in the hospital 23 hours. I had an issue with wound care underneath the brest where the 3 sections meet. It took a while to heal. I did amazingly well with my after care, the only negative that I have is the scarring, specifically keloids. I did loose some sensation in 1 nipple but not enough to worry about. It has been 10 years now and I was ssssoooooo happy with my choice. I have gained some weight in the past 10 years and my breasts seem to have gained weight on the outsides! I almost feel like I need a little extra tuck for those sides but not sure I will do more surgery yet. (I had a hysterectomy in Aug this year.)
Please feel free to contact me for any further info.
Good luck

Hi Jennifer,

I think if it helps you to feel better then GREAT go for it! It sounds like you are excited too so that means you are on the right path! I had my breast reduced several years ago. I was a D but, I had breast cancer and had to have radiation on one of my breasts. The one breast that had the radiation shrunk and my other one was big. So I was lopsided. LOL. I had the breast reduction to even them out! I did not have implants put in because I was big enough that I didn't need them. I absolutley LOVE them now. It was the best thing I ever did. I am a nice C now and it makes a world of difference in how I feel. The only thing I can say to you is think about wether you want implants or not. I am sure your doctor will ask you about that. That of course is up to you. GOOD LUCK and feel good in the process and keep that excitment flowing! :)

Ok, how did you get your doctor to take you seriously and then how did you get them to get insurance to cover you? I am a 32DD (larger during period) and I tried again to get a primary doctor to look at me and refer me only to be told that it is too hard to get insurance to cover the reduction (not to mention she thinks I am not that big- HA!).
