Hi M.,

The best sippy cups my son's used are the Avent ones. They're really durable and easy to drink from. If you've used their bottles, they can be easily converted to a sippy cup. (you just have to buy the different tops).

As for how many ounces of food for an 11 month old, I think they should be getting most of their nutrition from nursing (if you are, or bottle-feeding) but if you're feeding solids, I would say about 3-4 oz. per meal. Their tummies are still very small. You might want to ask your pediatrician. A good site to look up:

I use the toss and go cups in my daycare. They are disposable but I use mine several times before throwing them away. They are dishwasher safe. I start with the sippy top and transition to the straw one as quickly as possible. All of the kids like them. The fancy ones are a waste of money.

My daughter uses the playtex. I like them because they sell the replacement to the spillproof valve. If the spill proof starts to stretch from being cleaned you just go pick up a four dollar pack of replacement ones instead of replacing the whole cup. They are also very sturdy and I still have not had one bust. The best part is they are dishwasher safe and they really are. Some of them say that but end up cracking after so many washes. These have not done that. Good luck.

We tried them all and the only ones they LOVE are the Gerber ones that change color. You can find them in the grocery store or at CVS. They make smaller versions too...they are so good I've recommended them to all my friends as well!!!

My son liked the Playtex and the Munchkin insulated sippers best when he was really little, however the 8 month old I baby-sit really enjoys those "First Years" Take-N-Toss ones. I've also known A LOT of moms that swear by the Nuby soft nipple cups. As you can tell, it's all about what YOUR kid likes best. My suggestion is to by the Nuby (about $1 each) and the Take-N-Toss (about $5 for 6) first to see how he does. These are both much easier to get the liquid out of for beginers. If he shows interest in these, then you can try some others to see what YOU and baby can agree on.

Also remember that your 7 year old MAY want a “special” cup too. There are LOTS of very cute inexpensive tumblers and straw cups available. (First Years also makes Take-N-Toss straw cups. The sipper and straw cups have the same size lid, so they’re totally interchangeable.)

Hope it helps~ J.

I think that is up to the baby, on both questions. Babies go thrue spurts. Some days my son wants nothing to do with food, other days I can't believe how much he packs away. As for the cup, my only suggestion is to get a soft spout. My son would only take the playtex cups (he actually started on the straw cups, now in a sippy cup), but now he drinks out of anything.
