Okay, I can not stand the baby shower games, esp the dirty diaper one - it's just too far! However one that is kind of fun is take plastic babies (find at any party place) and put them in ice cube trays fill with water and make ice cubes. Each party goer gets one and you whoever's melts first wins! It's "My Water Broke!" It is fun when women's hands are frozen because they are holding their ice cube, or the smokers get out their lighters and melt the cube or women go to the restroom and find the hair dryer - I dropped mine in hot coffee and won! Honestly there are no "rules" just fun.

My family has always done the baby product Price is Right game. You buy a bunch of inexpensive baby products or small toys or items from the expectant mama's registry--outlet covers, baby lotion, diaper rash ointment, pacifiers, etc. And make a little sheet with numbers on it (put a number on each item). Hand the sheet out to guests as they arrive and let them look at the items and write down their guess on the cost and then go over it after everyone's had a chance to fill their sheet out. The person who gets closest to the total price without going over is the winner. Bonus--the new mama gets to keep all the goodies.

I have two great games that trick your participants! Plus, they are not the typical baby shower games so hopefully those who do not like to play will still enjoy themselves.

The first is the game where the Mother to be walks around with a tray of baby items and says "remember what you see!". After each person gets a chance to see the tray (and most likely try to remember every item on it), the mother to be disappears with the tray into the next room. Sitting face down on the table in front of each guest there is a paper with questions on it. When you say go, the guests will flip over the paper and be surprised when they have to answer questions about the mother to be, instead of the baby items. Questions include: what color was mommy's nail polish? Was she wearing earrings? etc. It is funny to see the guests reactions to the surprise questions!

For the other one, take index cards and write the name of one baby item on each (crib, bib, bottle, blanket, etc). Seal each card in an envelope with a sticky seal. Give each guest a pen and an envelope and ask them not to open until you say go. Explain that the cards each have a baby item on it and when you say go they have to open the envelope and draw the item on the back of the card. Stress that there will be a very short time limit (30 or 45 sec.) and that the mother to be will be the judge. Time the guests and when time is up, have each guest put the card back into the envelope. The Mother to be then finds the envelope that was opened the neatest and the person who drew it is the winner! Most will assume that the game will be judge on artistic ability, and since there is a time limit most shred the envelope up trying to get into it. People are always shocked at this one.

No games....more good food, champagne/mimosas or really good coffee drinks for the non-pregnant woman...good conversation....goodie bags (like for the kids only better), ended with a GREAT dessert...those games are AWFUL!

My sister in law just recently threw me one and had a clothesline set up and plain white and fabric paint for everyone to make an outfit.,it was very cute.

Plus you gotta have the toilet paper game.

At mine we had some fun ones. My SIL took stage 1 baby food jars and removed the labels. We had to guess what the food was (I had no clue bananas looked pink!).

We also did "Guess how big mommy's tummy is". People took a length of ribbon that they thought was the size of my tummy (which was hilarious since I was expecting twins - talk about HUGE!)

Okay, sorry I like the diaper game too! ;) It is gross, but funny, especially for a first time mom! If it is a subsequent child I probably wouldn't do it. The ice melting game and the Price is Right sound super cute, I've never heard of those before!

I have done the guess how big the tummy is game and that's usually fun, another one I like is the left/right story. You can use a stuffed animal or a diaper or a bottle, whatever really, and then read the story and each time it says right or left, pass the object that direction. The person who's holding it at the end gets a prize and the mom to be gets the object. You can google the story and find one.

Another one I did was a make the baby name game. The mom-to-be didn't have a name picked out (this also works if you don't know the gender yet) so I got a box of Alpha Bits cereal and gave each person a baggie of letters and a paper plate. I put 5 mins on the timer and the person with the most creative list of names won. You couldn't reuse letters but plenty of people traded and bargained for letters they wanted! It was pretty cute.

Personally I do like games, just a few. I think it's a good idea especially if you have a bunch of people that maybe don't know each other. I would only do a few and then of course have chatting, eating and present time, but using of mix of interactive games and ones that you can just set up and leave (baby food and price is right) are good too b/c it gives people something to do as they are coming in and looking around.
