Anyone Know Good Dentist on Aetna DMO?

Open enrollment is now and we are looking at the dental options. One is Aetna DMO. Anyone know a good dentist on that plan? I see most are Monarch Dental offices- any experience with them? Others I see near us are Dr. Branson, McNeff, Huffstutler, and Bradley that look to have individual offices. What about pediatric dentist? I don't see any pedi dentist listed as PDP so how does this work? We have to enroll by Fri so prompt replies and any help would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the help! We decided to not go with Aetna DMO. It sounds like what we thought it would be a terrible waste of money!

Whatever you do DO NOT USE Dr. Branson - if he is in the mid-cities area - I think his first name starts with a K - we used him - extremely poor front office receptionist very rude - very small rooms and poor dental service. We used him for a very short time - would not recommend him to anyone.

I don't know if there is a Mark Merritt on that program in Colleyville - he is very good or Dr Ahrens in Grapevine is very good.

Good luck

My job offers Aetna DMO. I had it the first year and then cancelled. Compared to plans like Delta Dental, this plan SUCKS! Your only options are Monarch Dental and they seem pretty incompetent to me. There were only a few other dentists on the list, but they were either not accepting new patients or didn't have great reatings. The savings weren't worth the coverage. So I just put a little extra in my HSA and go to a private dentist and make monthly payments from the HSA. Even Aetna Indemnity isn't worth it either. JMO. HTH!

Aetna DMO sucks totally. I had it, hated it & switched to the Met Life plan. You must work for Baylor:) Monarch Dental is totally a no. There is no pedi-dentist on the DMO.

We had Aetna thru the federal government so it was a Health and Dental plan, so not sure about the limitations of providers on the DMO plan. If Dr. Henegar in Las Colinas is listed, he is GREAT. I have since changed to Cigna DMO and most of my co-workers see him as well.

I'm not sure where you are, but if you are near Flower Mound/Lantana/Highland Village area, you should try Dental Depot - Dr. Kana & Dr. Patel are wonderful! You can take the entire family there! They have lots of trains to distract the little ones, as well as some fun toys for them while they visit the dentist office. I am sure they take Aetna DMO. Good luck!

This may not be the recommendation you are looking for, but I have learned that the mercury in dental work causes major health problems. I am in the process of removing my fillings and crowns- due to my hypothyroidism. You can watch the video "smoking teeth" on u tube to get more info. I am seeing Dr Sprinkle in Arlington and he is out of network with Aetna, but he is an organic dentist and you do not have to worry about having health problems long term as a result of his dental work. Good luck.

I hate to tell you this but Aetna DMO absolutely SUX! And there is no way around it. All of the dentist's we have seen are substandard and/or money hungry. Any dentist who even seems to possibly be decent is not accepting new patients.

Monarch Dental is a chop shop and they do shoddy work at every one of their locations. I would never go there (or Longhorn Dental, either!).

Also, NEVER EVER go to Dr. Branson. His extremely cramped office was dirty and disorganized and his Receptionist was beyond rude - She was obnoxious and horribly and loudly condescending to everyone who had insurance. Plus, she was Branson's wife and he just let her treat his patients that way. We walked out of his office in shock the first time we went without ever even seeing him. He has since opened another office and has a new receptionist, but I have never been so appalled, in my entire life, at the way he was running his business. I actually called Aetna to complain. (And, of course they did nothing about it.)

We see Dr. Huffstutler. He has a nice office and good staff. But, you have to schedule SIX months in advance for a cleaning. And, he is always "finding" something that he needs to do that is terrifically expensive (because Aetna doesn't cover anything). I've gone to get 2nd opinions and was told that I didn't need the work done that he was insisting upon. (He also tried to get me to do a root canal on a tooth that has never bothered me at all). Also, he will tell you that you have a cavity at one visit and never mention it the next time you come for a cleaning. So, I am happy enough there for cleanings, but won't let them do anything else.

As for pediatric coverage, Aetna lets you sign up for the "family" plan or a "child's" plan without disclosing that NONE of their "GENERAL" dentists see children under the age of 6. All the pediatric dentists are "SPECIALISTS" and Aetna only covers 20% at the most. (My 4-year-old's very first cleaning ever was quoted at $164 and my 2-year-old's at $89). It's cheaper to just pay out of pocket, I think!

Sorry for such bad news. Aetna is the WORST! It's the one reason I am looking forward to the day when I go back to work, so I can get "REAL" dental insurance.

Hope this helped somewhat!

Unfortunately, I agree with the other posters about the DMO plan. We went to Branson for a long time and were miserable. He is actually a nice man but his wife/receptionist is AWFUL! She yells, hangs up on people when they are calling, and is generally rude to everyone.
Thankfully, our insurance has now changed. We have CompDent. Although, there is still not a pedi dentist on that plan either. :(
We just pay our son's dentist out of pocket. He's only 3 so all the dentist has done so far is check his teeth (no cleanings yet). Once we start having "real" dentist visits, we might have to look into something else.

I took my daughter to the dentist the first time this morning (she is 18 months). I didn't know what to expect, but we had a GREAT experience. Dr Sidney Smith is a pediatric dentist, in South Arlington on Matlock, ###-###-####. It didn't take long to get in. We loved the staff, the office was very kid friendly, and the dentist made my daughter so comfortable. I know they take Aetna, because I mistakenly told them that's what I had, but that's my medical. I am on MetLife dental. You should call them to see if they take your insurance.

I don't know where you are located, but I recommend our dentist, Family Tree Dentisry. Dr Bui is currently on maternity leave, but she has another woman as a colleague working there right now. I don't know if they take that insurance, but you can call them at ###-###-####. They are wonderful with my two girls (ages 2 and 4)! If it is a convenient location and accepting your insurance, I think they're a wonderful choice. I actually heard about them on here about a year ago:)!
