Anyone for ANOTHER Potty Question....

So I've read about a million of the previous posts about potty training but still have a question for you guys. My son just turned two (yes i know, two is early for boys but he is totally in charge of this and I am following his lead) and we have had the potty out for him for the past year just to get him used to it. Over the past six months he has been using it more and more on his own and about 4 days ago he started taking his diaper off to pee in the potty. So two days ago I took of his diaper when he woke up and let him go comando all day while encouraging the potty usage and just frequently reminding him, "no pee pee on the couch....on the floor...etc" Well, we didn't have a single accident in two days (still no #2 on the potty because I still diapered him for naps and I think he just held it until then...). And after the first day I wasn't even reminding him anymore he just would run into to room and get on the potty and go...(even if we were upstairs playing in his room he would get up go downstairs and pee on the potty without a word!). I though all was great until I put underwear on him today and he peed in them twice in 30 minutes (two seperate pairs). They aren't padded underwear they are just regular little boy briefs (with cars and diego...) so they are very different from the diaper and I even explained to him...no pee in diego...or cars...and he repeated to me and seemed to understand. He even comes and tells me when he pees in them. My question is how do I get him to understand he has to pull the pants down to pee???? I've showed him by pulling his pants down and sitting him on the potty so he can pee...and also reminding him more to go potty....do I just keep up with the reminding??? I definately think he's ready so that is not the issue (before I get 50 posts telling me to wait until he is three). Also, if he pees on the potty he gets an m&m and gets to dump his peepee in the toilet and flush (which he thinks is great). So, just keep reminding? or is there something else I can do? Thanks!!! I know this is about the 8 millionth potty question so I appreciate your taking the time to read mine!

So What Happened?

Thank you thank you! We are just going to keep going comando at home and maybe in a little bit we will try the boxers. I really appreciate you all taking the time to respond to yet another potty question :)

If you can stand it I actually had both my boys go commando (no underwear) for awhile because the briefs felt too much like underwear. The padded ones were worse so I'm pretty sure that was it. Then I moved them on to boxers when they were ready. It's hard to find boxers in small sizes but sometimes if you buy the soft cotton ones they will shrink a lot and then do fit. Good luck!

I am very encouraged to know that you can potty train a boy before three (my youngest is a boy)! That being said, I have potty trained two girls by the age of two. What I did for both of them was to potty train with the poop first, because I was able to tell when they were going poops so I would just whisk them off and put them on the potty. I never had any problems with that. It took them both maybe a week of me putting them on the toilet every 20-30 minutes so we could catch the pee in the potty. Sounds like your little man really has the hang of it. Just keep him close to the potty for a week or so and keep putting him on the potty at the times you know he usually has to go. Make sure you don't ask him if he has to pee, just tell him it is time to sit on the potty. I think most people make the mistake of asking kids if they have to go instead of just making it a command. I mean, you don't ask if they want to take a nap right? Keep up the good work!

Like other posters suggested, maybe just let him go naked at home. Also he may just physically have a hard time getting them down, so make sure the undies are a loose fit. Try buying them a size or two bigger than normal until he really gets the hang of it. Also have him practice taking the underwear on and off a doll so he gets the idea. Sounds like he is doing really great so far!

We went comando for at least a week if not longer and still are comando most of the day at home. We had the same problem with briefs though, they are constricting, somewhat like a diaper. Our doctor recommended boxers as they are more airy and give the effect of not being so constricted and having something to catch the. Never did he have an accident in the boxers and adventually we were able to switch to normal underwear. Good Luck!
