Activities for Babies in Fountain Hills/N. Scottsdale Area?

I have a very active and happy 7-month-old. He loves getting out but we can only go to the market, park and library so many times a week! Does anybody know of any fun activities or things for babies to do in the Fountain Hills/North Scottsdale area? Or even some fun home-based ideas for ways to keep him stimulated. We do the obvious stuff like toys, books, bouncing, playing airplane, etc. but he is always hungry for something new and different. We are avoiding the computer and television.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for your awesome suggestions! We have been to the zoo, a music class at the Scottsdale Palomino library, and we've signed up for a trial class at The Little Gym. Next I am going to look into a music class and talk to some mommies about meeting up at the park. We are finding it difficult to get to places on time with my son's naps and everything, and he's not a big fan of the car, but we're doing pretty dang good. Thanks again!

Try the story times offered at Boarders Book Stores. They have specific ones for kids of all ages. My daughter is 10 months now and loves going and has been doing so for a very long time. Also the McCormick Ranch Railroad Park is fun. The train, carousel and play areas are great.

You should check out Gymboree at Bell and Scottsdale Rd. They have programs geared toward infants. Also, the Little Gym is another option. P.V. Mall also has a play area by JC Penneys that has structures low to the ground for little ones to climb on or pull themselves up on. Just be watchful of your son because there is a height restriction but older/taller kids do get in there to play. Its not supervised (except for by the parents.)

Hi A.,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. I live in N. Scottsdale (Grayhawk area), I am 30 years old, married and have an almost 6 month old girl. My girl loves to go outside and see the world. Everyday we try to go somewhere because she gets very bored at the house. If you ever want to get together for a playdate, just let me know. My home phone is ###-###-#### and my email is ____@____.com to meet you soon. A. Condit

I bought some really neat cards at the learning store that might really help you come up with more ideas for stuff to do at home with your son. They were geared specifically for infants and had a lot of great ideas. I believe they are called Brighter Minds or Smarter Minds, something like that. I wish I could find them right now, but we are moving. They had ideas like putting toys in oatmeal containers and rolling them across the floor, taping paper towel tubes to the legs of a chair and dropping different objects through them, etc. etc. If you can't find them, just let me know and I can find out the exact name.

Hi A.,

Gymboree has some great classes. You can learn about it at www.gymboreeclasses.com .
There's also MOPS (mothers of preschoolers)www.mops.org

They are both great ways to meet other moms and get your children together while doing fun activities.

I live Scottdale with a 5 week old little boy. i thinkit is hard to find activities for babies thatlittle. Have you tried music classes. My friends have done that and baby yoga. I am not sure where it is offered but try google and see. I like to go to the park if you ever want to meet but I ahve a two year old as well so it gets busy.

You could try The Little Gym. I know there is one in Scottsdale, but I'm not sure where (my son attends the Ahwatukee location) I have been taking my son there since he was 4 months and he loves it. They work on their total development through motor skill development. I know they will let you do a free trial class if you want to go check it out. ( www.thelittlegym.com)

One of the best things that happened when my daughter was that age was that I made some wonderful mommy friends at the activities I was taking my daughter to. We now get together regularly and have playdates. Plus as moms we are able to share questions, etc with others that are going through the same things at the same time. It was a win win since my daughter had her activities, met new friends and I met new friends! I ended up meeting people at the Little Gym and Stroller Strides. Also, I think you said you already go to the library?, do you do the library classes for kids?
