About Trust

My question is for people who say they don't trust the Democratic presidential candidate, but they don't know why, they just feel they don't trust him.

Take a little time and really think about why you don't trust him. Is it because he's an eloquent speaker? Because of his charisma? The color of his skin? His name sounding exotic? His background as a community organizer?

I'm really curious and I hope some people will take time to give thought to this question and post comments. Is it because that's the spin of the opponent's campaign? Thanks.

What can I do next?

I find it funny that people are not responding to this request. You make a good point - I think most people are hesitant because Obama is not white, Harvard educated, and comes from a very different set of experiences that the common man - apparently, identity politics is playing a large role in this election. People do not identify with Barack, because of his varied background. My point is this - George Bush was very popular because everyone identified with him and wanted to drink a beer with him. Personally, I would rather my President be intellectually superior compared to the below average President we had this past 8 years! I want the smartest person to run this country - doesn't matter to me if I can relate to him/her. I also have to laugh at the fact that people call Barack an elitist, when he was raised by a single mom who struggled to make ends meet; McCain with his 9 homes, private jet planes and 12 cars can somehow relate to the common man? Give me a break!

Thank you for writing this question. This is a very important topic because our country is in the midst of some very serious problems (Iraq, Afghanistan, financial crisis, global warming, etc.). It is extremely important that we elect the person best suited for the job of getting us out of the mess we are in.

I fully support Barrack Obama. I have to admit, I was a Hilary supporter, but Obama's platform is very similar to hers. I trust Obama as much as I trust any politician. I feel there is a lot of corruption in American politics today and I'm very cynical about all politicians. However, I feel that Obama does understand the plight of the everyday American much more than McCain. I feel that McCain is more sympathetic towards big business and the wealthy. Obama was raised by a single mom with modest means. In response to the person who complained about his eloquent speech.......He speaks eloquently not because he is an elitist, but because he is a very intelligent person and is highly educated. Both of those qualities are what I want to see in our president. I also think it is awesome that we could have a president who has been on the front lines in America working firsthand with poor communities and people who needed and benefited from his help. How refreshing that a politician has that kind of background. As a person who has worked in the human services field and worked for non profit community organizations, I know what a challenge that is and how rewarding it can be.

I have issues with several things about him. Whether it's the popular thing or not I will admit his name was originally a problem for me....before anyone starts slamming me I'm speaking the truth and telling you how I feel, please don't try to change that or tell me I'm wrong, these are my feelings.

He says he's an average American who's living the dream, yet he speaks like a man who's never seen the inside of a middle class home. If he spoke like this all the time it wouldn't be a problem YET there are times when he speaks without using his "eloquent speech" and I scratch my head and think to myself which speaker is the real man?

I do have an issue as well with some of his close advisors and the amount of influence they may have over his thoughts, Jeremiah Wright is at the top of the list. The media showed several clips of his preaching but without seeing the entire thing it's hard to know the true context of his speechs...to be honest with you the things he said after 9/11, well as mad as you may get, were true.

As for the other things you mentioned, none of them bother me. His backround as a community organizer I can't figure out why that would bother anyone, except those who don't see it as enough experience to be the President of the US. The color of his skin will bother some because they are older and lived through a time of seperation (elderly) and others yet because they don't see a man they see a black man.
As for his charisma, that is a personal thing (I can't see why anyone would have a problem with it if they think he has charisma).

See I personally think you are a supporter of his. That's fine. Come out and say so.

Me, I'm waiting for the presidental debates to conclude. I originally thought the vice-pres nominee would decide for me but it's not to be. John McCain is too old and married money. I don't want to be in Iraq for another 100 years (which he said might happen).

It's my humble thought that I will be choosing the lesser of two evils. I don't trust either of them and I'm sure it has more to do with the past eight years than either canidate. I no longer trust politicians to do the "right thing" as they don't seem to be able to put aside their own selfishness and do what is in the best interest of the country.

I think this is a valid post, but I understand people wanting to avoid an inflammatory topic (which politics often is). I am a Republican. I am also an Obama supporter, because first and foremost, I am a mom, and unfortunately, the Republican party isn't talking at all about how to help families or the middle class. Good for you for asking the tough questions. At the very least, maybe some people will try to fairly evaluate their reasons for supporting their candidate. I will be watching this thread to see how it plays out.

All my best!

I know why I don't trust him and it has nothing to do with the reasons mentioned above... All I have to say is William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and not to mention he supports Abortion!!!! That is enough reasons for me!!!!!!! We need to stop making this about race but about the values and morals he stands for!!!!
