My 8 month old son woke up this morning and his eye would not focus on anything. I am so worried. He is not bothered by it at all though. It does look more swollen then the other one. I do not see any scratched or anything visibal to me anyhow. Any ideas

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

we took him to the pediatric doctor at 920am that morning. She checked everything ok. They ruled out a seziure, allergies, infection. His white count is good. It went away for the most part after about 3 hours. The eye lid is still a little droppy. We then seen a eye doctor could not get into a opthamologist until this week sometime. He looked at the back of his eye and everything looks good, he has really good vision as well. So in short we do not know what caused it but we are keeping a very close watch on it. His eye is back to normal with slight dropping. We are suppose to see an opthomolisgist this week. Not sure there is anything else We can do?

update: Q is fine and everything checkout just fine. The doctor said this can happen once in a while but he is all ok now.

He was re-checked again for another follow-up and everything is all fine.

Do you take flash photography? Have you noticed a white pupil? I would suggest making an appointment as soon as you. My friend's son had the same thing and it was lucky that she made the appointment.

ER or Acute Care or whatever clinic is open on a Saturday there. GO. Don't wait to make an appointment with a pediatrician or Opthalmoligist, get in the car & go. If you go & it's nothing you will regret it for a week, if you don't go & it's something major, you will regret it forever.

Hi C.,
I would advise taking him to the doctor asap to have it checked out. I am so sorry because I know this will totally freak you out, and because it is so unlikely that this is the cause, but a friends daughter had this happen (woke up with a lazy eye out of the blue one day) and it turned out to be a tumor in her brain pressing on the optic nerve. Again, I apologize if this is scary, but I just wanted to let you know that it is definitely something worth having looked at right away.

I would take him to the doctor ASAP. "Lazy eye" or "unfocused eye" or what ever you are seeing can be a signal for many very serious things. Go!

I would take him to the pediatrician and let them no your concerns. He will probably refer you to a pediatric opthamologist to have your sons vision evaluated. THis sounds like a condition called Strabismus which i had has a child and my vision is fine now although i do have to wear glasses. My son is being evalutated next week for the same condition (he is 21 months) the earlier you catch it the better. Hope everything turns out ok. If you want to know more about this condition feel free to pm me I know a lot about it.

Have your pediatrician reccommend a ENT(Ear/Nose/Throat) doctor. If it is Lazy Eye, you need to get it checked ASAP.

Have your pediatrician reccommend a ENT(Ear/Nose/Throat) doctor. I doubt that it is lazy eye because that is something you are born with. .
