I use Thai Deoderant Stick...it is made from natural ingredients that don't let the bacteria (the cause of BO) grow. It does not contain the harmful aluminum and carcinogens in 'regular' antiperspirants and deoderants. It is more expensive initally (around $7?), but they last a LONG time! I am still using the one I bought in June 2006!! It will be replaced soon, but still....think of the money I saved in two years of not buying deoderant every month or so!

I would try using this first, especially since she is so young. It is a much "greener" and healthier choice. Make sure she uses it correctly (wet it before applying to clean armpit). Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

My sd is also on the heavier side and smells of horrible bo sometimes her head smells after a night of sleeping. I talked to the pediatrician before starting her on deoderant and he said it was perfectly fine. So I bought her some and encourage her to use it but she rarely does. She doesn't seem to think she smells so bad. And no one has made fun of her at school yet so that's where we stand.

We have been through this at my house also. My husband can skip deodorant and you'd never know. If I go without for more than an hour I'm in trouble. Two of my boys started wearing deodorant early. The oldest around 8 and the youngest this past year at 6! My middle son is 8 and could run around all day you would never know it. Sometimes he puts the deodorant on too, so he's not left out. All three are small and slender if not skinny.

I didn't even second guess it, when they needed it we went to Wal-mart and the stinky one got to pick out his own deodorant. Needless to say I had a headache after sniffing all those sticks, but the boys loved it! Now that my oldest son is 11 he also showers daily to help keep things under control.

I do know they have some great teen deodorants for girls! They are lighter scented and smaller, so they fit little pits better!

Good luck!

R., Ya I believe what the other mom said, I had to start my son with deoderant last year and he was also 7. He is little on the heavier side from most boys his age and boy he would come in with bad BO so I went and bought him deoderant and he felt so much better even on the grown up side, and not so embaressed cause he also noticed the smell and didn't like it. Take her with you let her pick it out, they love it.

My 7 year old boy has the same problem. We now have him take a shower every night as apposed to every other. I checked with his dr office and they said he could use a mild deoderant. So I went and bought him Dove deoderant and we no longer have any problems.
Good Luck!

I think that's probably the age of some kids to start having this...my sister started her period when she was 9 and so did my niece so it is a possiblity things are starting to change now. Take her for a girls day and go to bath and body works and get her some body spray and maybe bubble bath and pampering type stuff. (don't forget the deodorant although you can't get it there). Make it sound like she's getting older so she can start using big girl things, just don't make her feel like she stinks so you have to get her deodorant now. Make sense?
Good luck :)
