I have no idea what I am doing, my son will be 1 year later this month and I don't know the etiquette for his b-day party. Do I provide favors for the kids? I plan on adult food but what about the few children that will be attending that are around the same age? Do I need to provide baby food? I plan on a Winnie the Pooh theme. Does anyone know a good bakery for a cake in the Potomac area? I have one, but they are in Centreville and that is just too far. Also, any good ideas for what to do during the party or is it mostly for the adults at this point?
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

!st Bday is all about the photo op for the scrap book and parents celebrating their love of their the new arrival who has turned their lives upside down with joy and challenge. Parents of other babies will pack their own food/milk etc unless toddlers, then table foods like apples slices, apple sauce, soft cooked veggies, crackers, raisins, bread etc are fine - depends on their stage. If their diet is really limited the parent will come prepared with back up food (as would you if you were a guest). Party favors are a bit of a challenge, You can go to baby depot or such and fine washable small plush toys of colorful rattles etc. If you want to by finger puppets, I am in silver spring distribute Puppets call ###-###-####. But getting token toys for $4 to $8 is totally do-able, sugar free lollipops are a candy options you can add etc. You could even do sippy cups- stuff like that. I think the ceremony of goody bags is fun for all. Bakery-I have no recommendations.
Congrats!!!

It's been awhile since I had the 1st birthday parties (mine are 5 and 7 now) but I do remember that it was definitely more for the adults. For one we had a cookout since it was summer. Don't bother providing goody bags for one year olds. I also made the cakes for both of my girls. I made them as pretty as I could, but they were still made from a mix! Don't stress! It gets worse when they get older. Have fun :)

For the cake, Giant at the village is just fine. THey ay not have the best cake but they're pretty good and can get lots of different themes. This is really for the adults so maybe have a couple of plates or napkins with winnie the pooh on the which you can get at party city. If you have other babies coming, maybe make something that babies would like, but I wouldn't go really nuts. Enjoy celebrating your child's b-day!

Hi SL,
First of all don't stress. Your child will not remember his 1st birthday party so it is really more of a chance for the grownups to get together. Are you having the party at your house? We had my oldest 1st birthday at my house. We invited (as much as I can remember) 4 of her friends plus 2 parents each. I provided age appropriate toys and food for the children. Goldfish, cheerios, cut up fruit, whatever your son will eat. Parents usually bring their own snacks for their little ones. For adults we grilled hamburgers (it was summer time). It is really more like a playdate with cake and the happy birthday song. I wouldn't do too many activities because they are 12 months old which is kind of young for group art activities. Have fun and take pictures! I have no suggesstions for a bakery. That is another thing I don't stress about....just get it at the closet grocery store's bakery, but that is just me.
