Hi Moms. My 19 month old daughter has started waking up in the middle of the night. We used to be able to just give her a pacifier and she would go back to sleep. but lately she wakes up and refuses to go back to sleep. we try putting rocking her or putting her in our bed but nothing seems to work. Sometimes she will go back to sleep if we stay in her room and lay on the floor but that usually takes an hour. Does anyone have any quick solutions. i know some people will say we should just let her cry herself back to sleep, but we have 4 month old twins that we don't want her waking up. if anyone has any thoughts please let me know

What can I do next?

maybe she needs a drink of milk and that will cost her belly than you can go back to bed. or maybe ask her if she had a bad dream? Somethings bother ing her that late. either a dream or maybe shes doing agrowth spurt and shes hungery. Good luck.

This sounds like a combination of developmental growth and the twins. I'd just work with it the best you can in a comforting way until it passes, but it may take awhile. I think it would be very harmful to her to let her cry it out. She's already going through something that she can't verbalize to you. I'm sure you don't want to add to her confusion and upset.

This may not work with the twins, but when our daughter woke up early, we would call from our bed, "It's still sleepytime!" And she would either go back to sleep or play quietly.

K.:

Try the book and CD "Sleep Loved One Sleep" - the CD relaxes them with soothing music so they can drift back to sleep quickly and while the music is being played, the child hears positive affirmations to bolster their self-esteem. Doctors offices are using it to help settle children down during difficult procedures - it does work.

Hi K.. I can only think that she might be teething (molars probably). So maybe try some motrin before bed and see if that helps with her waking, or if she wakes at night, try motrin to get her to go back to sleep. Most likely, this is a phase and she will stop eventually. Also, I'm not sure if you have a "music box" (something that plays soothing sounds to put baby back to sleep) or anything, but that usually lulls/lulled mine back to sleep if they woke at night. Good luck, I feel your pain.
