my son is 16 months old and he threw up twice on wednesday then acted like his old self but thew up again last night. he doesn't have a fever and no diarrhea (yet). two of the three episodes of throwing up have been after drinking is normal 8 ounces of whole milk. the other foods that he's been eating have been the same as usual. i have an appt with the dr tomorrow but i'm just wondering if any other moms out there have had issues like this with whole milk and if it helped to switch to 2%. i think it can either be a virus (and the diarrhea is yet to come), a sensitivity to whole milk or a sensitivity to milk in general - just my speculation. i feel so bad for these little ones when they have to throw up :( thank you in advance for any insight you may have! i have a dr appt tomorrow so i will see what they have to say too.

What can I do next?

When you find a hospital with an "ask a nurse" line place the phone number in a prominent place where you can find it anytime. Call today to the line and get to know whether you have a real problem for it's normal.
Also for great help as your child gets older and gets into things you can't imagine he might find and keep the number of the national poison control line.
My neighbor's child fed herself an entire bottle of aspirin. How she got the lid off nobody knows. We lived way out in the country. When the nurse told her to make her 2 yr old vomit (sometimes you should not have them vomit) she drove right over to me as she knew I would stock Ipecach (sp) syrup. I always keep every thing around for an emergency medical kit. Every mother should have one.
I know I answered more than the question. However, you can keep the information for future reference.

sounds like Noravirus. It's very contageous. You either have diarrhea or throwing up. It gets better, but your son is still highly contageous for 48 hours after he last gets sick and for 2 weeks afterwards. Go to Whole Food and get some probiotics for him. He'll feel better. While you are there, get some for everyone else in the family and start taking them now.

We were told 1 kid at daycare threw up and by the 3rd day everyone and their parents came down with it. From day 1, I started giving my kids probiotics and my son and I only had cramping. My daughter refused to drink her milk which contained the powder from the probiotics and ended up throwing up 1 day later. My husband took them and only had the runs. While he's sick, he wont be very hungry, just make sure he drinks plenty of gatoraid/pedialite.

Good luck.

I am not a Doctor and I don't play one on TV...however, if there is an absence of diarehha I might wonder if he has had colds recently.

My kids have had colds that are so bad that mucus builds up in the stomach and towards the end of said cold, they puke. Not related to fever, milk etc...related directly to mucus. It happens whenever it is bad...not all the time.

If she is seeming gaunt, listless, or sick, take her to the er. If not, I imagine your doctor won't be terribly worried unless there are other issues.

All the best!
