15 Month Old Refusing Milk

My 15 year old son used to love to drink milk (cow's milk) until a week back. Now he seems to just hate it. Is there anything that I can do to get him to drink it. I tried adding couple of tsps of sugar to it.. but this has not had much effect. Are there other ways to trick him into drinking milk?

What can I do next?

Try soy milk- they have many different flavors and most of them are enhanced with the dha and omega threes that infants were getting in their formula or breast milk. My son loves the very vanilla- it's a little high in sugar but it more than makes up for that with the added supplemental fats and protein.

Ovaltine!

It tastes chocolately, low sugar *and* it has added vitamins and minerals.

Hi Y.!
My daughter is 20 months old and hasn't really cared for milk since she was about your son's age. I started added just enough chocolate syrup to it to make the taste a little better for her and that seemed to work. Now as soon as she wakes up in the morning she goes to the fridge, while I get the milk she gets the syrup out! Hope this helps!

My 2 yr old son has refused milk since he quit using a bottle at around a year. He prefers to drink water. Our pediatrician said he doesn't need milk. Just make sure he gets other foods with calcium daily. My son loves cheese and yogurt (Stonyfield make a great kids yogurt), so we just supplement with these. There are many nondairy foods that provide calcium as well if he doesn't like cheese and yogurt.

My friend had this problem with her 13 month old. She ended up using soy milk but she also tried fat free chocolate milk too. Maybe that will work!

My three year old never liked milk, cheese, yougart, etc. He would drink chocolate milk sometimes but only the prepackaged ones. He has finally started eating yogart, drinking milk, and has started eating some cheese but not too much cheese. So hang in there. This too may pass. It's hard because we are taught that they need milk to grow. He may grow out of it, just keep introducing it. He may decides he likes it one day. Try Soy like someone suggested. GOOD LUCK

My 12 month old grandaughter just did the same thing..first I thought it was her bottle and nipple I tried changing that, still fussed when we tried to give her the bottle we always warmed her milk up, than my daughter said maybe she wants it cold!! well that did it. she takes the bottle everytime now.. Now you did not say whether or not he or is still on the bottle or not, she drinks from the cup most times but when it comes to quiet time or bedtime still the bottle. hope it helps...J.

My two year old still will NOT drink milk! "Hate" is putting in mildly. He drinks the ready made chocolate milk, I buy low fat now, but at 15 months I bought 2% or whole. My doctor says this is fine and my son is extrememly healthy. He eats very healthy food, so I don't worry anymore. When we first got rid of the bottles at 1 year old and he refused milk, I thought he would just shrivel up without it! I think you can play around with flavor varieties or try the yogurt type drinks as well. Maybe pediasure, but my son hates those too! If nothing sticks, make sure he eats well and he will be fine! Don't panic, you are not alone.

I wouldn't force him to drink milk. In the words of Marilu Henner "the only thing cow's milk is good for is turning a 60 pound calf into a 300 pound cow in six months". I wouldn't be putting sugar in it or sugary syrups. It's a huge myth that they won't get enough calcium if they don't drink milk. All of our processed food is so hopped up with calcium and other vitamins and you get so much more Ca from broccoli. Don't sweat it mama! It's a good thing that he doesn't like milk. You'll probably see him not be so mucousy.

My daughter was the same way. We ended up having to give her chocolate milk. You can control just how much chocolate you put in it, so you don't have to worry too much about the sugar. There are also sugar-free chocolate syrups out there, too. I know Hershey has one. Now there are times where we pretend to put chocolate in her milk so she thinks it is in there and she will drink it white. I hope you find something that will work for you!

May God bless you!

try adding just enough chocolate or strawberry syrup to hide the taste. a friend of mine had this problem with both of her boys.....and she'd add a certain amount of choc syrup to it....do that for a week...the next week, she would add just a little bit less....and did that a week at a time until gradually her boys were weaned off the choc syrup and just drank straight milk. worth a try anyway!

Try putting Strawberry mix into. I've had to do that with my daughter. She LOVES it! Or try warming it up, warm milk tastes a little different, maybe he'll go for it better with that? Just a few suggestions! Hope something helps!
