14 Month Old Wanting to Nurse Again!? Advice? Experience with This??

I nursed my son for the full first year and weaned him 2 months ago. He was totally fine with weaning as he was already taking bottles and cups (I worked away from home and pumped) so we just had to get rid of the night nursing and that went very smooth.

About 2 weeks ago (after I'd say 6 weeks of successfully being 100% weaned) he's started "rooting" around again and trying to grab my nipple and nurse again!! Of course I don't have any milk left and I don't want to "re-lactate" or anything like that. I'm just concerned about what possible solutions to help comfort him without allowing him to use my nipples as pacifiers! Should I just get him a pacifier (though he's never used one before and I don't want to develop any dependencies now...?)

Recent changes in our life: I've started staying at home about a month ago and he's taken two round trip airplane rides in the last month so we have been traveling a lot.

I'm just confused because I know he's doing this in search of comfort but I do not want to offer him comfort through using me as a paci!

THANKS in advance fellow mamas!!

What can I do next?

I don't know if this link will work, but I asked a similar question about my 2 year old yesterday and got some really great answers ("2 year old nursing after weaning") I actually don't mind being used as a human paci for now, under the appropriate circumstances....not in the middle of the grocery store. But take a look at the answers I received. Hope they help.

Congrats on breastfeeding for a full year... but,

It saddens me that you want to refuse the comfort and love your son feels when he's nursing. It seems your push to wean him because of YOUR readiness to wean backfired and your son is taking the full burden.

You DO still have milk in your breasts and will continue to have them for years to come. Just because you squeeze and nothing comes out does not mean the natural mode of extracting the milk will not work.

I allowed my child to wean at her comfort level, so I can't give you any help in this area other than to allow him back to nursing if he still so strongly desires to do so. Your son is barely past 1 year old... what do you expect? That at 1 year they miraculously just stop nursing? Human babies are meant to nurse until at LEAST 2 years old if not longer.

Baby teeth are usually called Milk Teeth for a reason...

It could be that he has an ear infection from the airplane and the sucking provides relief. You may try giving him a pacifier or take him to the doctor to just be on the safe side. My son had tons of ear infections at this age with no symtems. We never would have known if we didn't take him to the doctor.
