HI my 13 month old has been sick with pneumonia and mono for about the last two months. Its seems as soon as shes just getting over one she develops another sickness. Two months ago she had pneumonia she got over that (or so i thought) and then a month ago I took her to the er at first they said strep but it came back negitive and so they mono and then she got over that. now shes sick once agian i called her doctor and the nurse suggested that I just go ahead and take her to the er to get some exrays and see whats going on shes sleeping right now so I figured i would get some input on what might be going on with her but regardless I am still taking her when she wakes. her symptoms include a deep cough accompanied with phelm that she keeps throwing up and a poor appeitie any guesses?

What can I do next?

I don't want to speculate, but I do think your physician is doing the best thing to get the X-Rays.

What I wouldn't do is get on the internet and try to find a diagnosis on your own - it will freak you out. I was diagnosed with cancer right after my 21 month old was born, and the internet was definitely not a good place for me to spend my time.

Why have you had take a look at her so far? I know your options are limited in Whiteland, so you're likely going to Greenfield or New Castle. There are some great doctors in each town.

Good luck. Please keep us posted on what you learn.

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I have a 16 mo old son who had a chronic runny nose and was fussy about eating . I had taken him regularly to his pediatrician for treatment of upper respiratory infections and ear infections. I inquired ,or rather thought it was allergy related. We have a family dog, I thought he was allergic to and wanted some antihistamine per the MD for him. I decided to take him to an allergist and learned that he is indeed allergic to the dog but that he's also allergic to cow milk, which we gave him everyday, frequently. We have now cut out cow milk and he's doing much better. So it may be good to have your child seen by an allergist.

I don't know where you live but I might suggest talking to an allergist who specializes in children AND nutrition. If you are in the Hamilton County vacinity.......I know of a great one.

Obviously, her immune system is down too, but if there is an allergy issue or issues that are causing her to constantly throw up, she's not able to build up her immune system because she can't keep it anything down. One thing effecting the other.........

If you're still nursing, I'd take a couple days and stop solids and nurse on demand around the clock. When kids that young have stomach problems, they need to be on "gut rest" for at least 24 hours and then slowly re-introduced to bland, mushy solids. Obviously, the added benefit is that your milk is so much better than anything like Pedialyte to keep her from getting dehydrated.

The phlegm could be a sign of allergies. My daughter was always sick. She ended up being allergic to dust, cigarette smoke, the mold from the live Christmas tree. The allergies brought on the constant irritation to the sinuses & lungs.

The doctor had to keep her on antibiotics just to keep her well enough to get her tonsils out. That & keeping the allergens down made all the difference in the world!
Good luck.
