Hey moms, my daughter is 11 1/2 months old and last week had a horrible stomach bug. She was throwing up and had diahrea for 5 days. I had taken her to the doctor last Friday because she was refusing to eat and drink anything and was scared she was getting dehydrated. The dr checked everything on her and said to give her pedialite and keep her hydrated. I then had to force pedialite into her with an oral syringe. She is getting better, but is still very lethargic and very fussy. She is starting to eat more and take her bottle again. But when it comes to her sleeping, it is awful. She used to go down for naps and bedtime no problem. Now she is having a hardtime napping, and wakes up every two hours at night all night. She will even fall alseep on me or my husbands shoulder, we will put her down, and totally wake up and scream her head off. I offer her a bottle but she refuses most times. My daughter is not her usual happy self and I am very concerned. Is she scared, hurting, I don't know. Please help! My husband and I both had the bug and were so sick and we are all in desperate need of sleep.

What can I do next?

Right now just do what works for her. If she wants to
be held, hold her. She is not feeling well and does
not really know what to do to comfort herself. Be
patient. She will be back to her old self before you
know it.

I would ask the doctor but be prepared, this might be a phase. My 17 month old is going through it right now. Nap time and bedtime have been nightmares but we just have to deal until it passes as long as there isn't anything medically wrong.

It really ruins their schedules when they are sick. My little guy had pneumonia and his eating and sleeping schedules were so out of whack. It took about 3 weeks to get back to a semi-normal schedule. Of course now he has another cold..(but sleeping pretty ok so far!) hang in there! good luck

Bring her back to the Dr and have her ears checked. Ear infections can start after a virus like that and they will definitely interrupt sleep because the pain is much worse when lying down.

It's probably a variety of things. For one, unfortunately this bug takes forever to pass by. Think of us adults how miserable we feel and compare that to what our poor little babies must be feeling like. All they really want is that TLC to make it through and that makes them feel a ton better. She's probably a lil scared too. My daughter sleeps through the nights all the time. When her stomach bug hit, it was in the middle of the night and she was throwing up everywhere. That's not a pleasant experience and she might be scared it will happen again. She has no idea what's going on. All she remembers is something bad happened and I still don't feel well. As for us catching up on sleep... that's a sacrifice we give up when we become parents. Once she goes down, you might have to sneak in some Zzz's or powernap here and there... I hope it helps and I hope your baby feels better soon! It's a heart wrenching experience when our baby is not happy or feeling well :(. Good Luck

My 11 1/2 month old just had this stomach bug last week also and was so lethargic - I had never seen him like that. The next day after being lethargic and going to the Dr. he was up at 6:30AM jumping, bouncing and talking in his crib. Your daughter will bounce back from it but it may take a while. Just keep doing what you are doing. I thought his schedule was going to be completely screwed up but we are now back on track. She will be too - in time.

not unusual, just need to give her time, work with her on the scheduling again.

This stomach bug that is going around is really pretty bad. The adults that I know who have had it didn't feel right or eat well for over a week. So - your little one might still have some lingering effects.

I know when my dgtr has a bad cold - she is not herself for up to 2 weeks. Cranky, irritable, not sleeping as well (not as bad as what you say) - but not herself.

So - likely that she still doesn't feel well. Just keep giving her the pedialyte if she's not drinking well - and anything she wants to eat at this point. Of course keep trying to keep the routine as much as possible and she'll likely fall back into it as she gets better. This is one evil stomach bug going around! Hope you all feel better soon!
