During the end of my marriage and the aftermath, I went through ups and downs. Sometimes I was a rock, sometimes I was a puddle of tears hugging a box of wine! There was a soundtrack to my heartache. It made me feel better to cry it out and to know that I'm not the only one that has ever felt this way. They got over it, so will I. I did get over it and he and I are great friends now. But I did my share of crying along with these songs. It was cathartic.

Billy Holiday - Good Morning Heartache,
Mary J Blige - Not gonna cry, One with Bono, I'm going down - The Whole My Life Album
There was a cd - great ladies sing the blues that i wore out, also the waiting to exhale soundtrack.

What breakup, heartache songs make you cry?

What can I do next?

After my breakup w/ my very first love at age 17, I must have played Phil Collins' song "One More Night" thousands of times in my bedroom. It's still a running joke w/ my parents, brother and I! :)

Added Ohhhhh, The Pretenders "Chill Factor" off their Isle of Views Album is AWESOME! For ladies who are divorced w/ kids, the lyrics are especially powerful.

Songs from Chess, the musical. "I Know Him So Well" and "Someone Else's Story." Pretty much the whole soundtrack to Les Miserables.... especially "I Dreamed a Dream", "On My Own" and "LIttle Fall of Rain." I remember seeing that show for the first time after a summer-long mind-F&^% named Craig.

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when Autumn came
And still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this Hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

"All By Myself" the original and the version by Celine Dion. I remember playing it over and over and over...all evening while I was all dressed up and eating the meal that I had prepared for someone else. (I got annoyed with him at the last minute and told him not to come over. I had borrowed table cloth and napkins from work and wine glasses and flutes from my mother...made him lasagna and cupcakes and had dinner and dessert wines and a sexy dress in many shades of his favorite color. It was his birthday.) I listened to the original version. Oh, the drama of the early 20s.

ETA: Oh, yeah--"I Was Meant for You" by Jewel is another one that accompanied me in that relationship.

O. M. G. How could I forget "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia? Oh, I cried. Same relationship.

Oh goodness! I just shuddered as I remembered mom listening to REM's "Everybody Hurts" after her divorce. Thousands of times. I stole it and sawed it into pieces with a hacksaw, it just drove me nuts. (By the way---harder to saw CDs than you may think!) And I liked REM....until that.
She also liked Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle", but I liked Croce too much to hurt that CD. ;)

Adele's "Someone Like You", I love. But I'm not breaking up with anyone.
