Problems with BPA Free Ventaire Bottles & Similac Formula

I am just wondering if anyone has experienced problems with the new BPA Free Ventaire bottles...it's only been about a month since we first bought the new BPA free bottles and the measurement guide on the outside of the bottle that tells you how many ounces of fluid has faded off of most of the bottles. We used Ventaire with my 1st son who is now 2.5yrs old and never had issues with the measurement guides fading off of the bottles...

Also, we switched from the Nestle's Goodstart formula to the Similac Advanced Early Shield since this brand boasts it also has antioxidants in their formula but our son has started spitting his milk back up...not sure if it is just because he can sometimes gulp his milk down or if it has something to do w/ the formula?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I talked to one of the workers at BabiesRUs and she said I can bring the bottles back and they will consider it being a defective product and they will give me new ones but again, I am worried about it happening again but I guess we'll just wait & see. I will also contact Playtex and "complain" since that is just soo odd.

Yeah, I am going to switch back to Nestle's GoodStart because my son didn't have any issues on that formula. I just wanted to try the Similac sample since it did boast that probiotic stuff but all of you are right -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Thanks so much for all of your helpful responses!!

I don't know about the bottles (my girls are 7 and 5) but with the formula my youngest spit up everything BUT Carnation Good Start! Which was nice, because it was one of the cheaper varieties. I think they make all formula to be top notch, so if Carnation worked for you go back to it :)

Hi G.,
I would contact Playtex by email and tell them what you are experiencing with their bottles. Hopefully they will send you some coupons so that you can get more bottles. I contacted Gerber about their nuk training cups and how the red sippy always leaks and they sent me two $5 off coupons and I got different sippy cups. It never hurts to try.

I have not experienced this but you should call the company so they can check their quality control. You can also get free replacement bottles as well.
As for your child spitting up on the new formula depending on how long he has been on it, the spitting up could be temporary while he adjusts to the change, but if he is still doing it after a week, then go back to the other stuff and see if he's better. If so then skip the antioxidants. Theres enough chemicals in formula these days w/out adding more. Its getting ridiculous.

G. ... I went through formula HELL with my son. The doctor had us on 7 or 8 different formulas. If your son was on one that worked for him. Go BACK! It make take a week or even two for the spitting up to get out of his system once you switch back (weird I know). But do what you know works and don't look back!!! ------------- (ps... when the doctor put us on GoodStart it was b/c it works well for babies with spit up problems (not our particular problem) but an interesting piece of info for you, it's supposed to be easier for them to digest I believe.)

hello G.,

I too had that problem. I was using the old ventaire bottle and then I switched to the new BPA free bottles when babies r us was giving the credit. Anyway, after the 1st week I noticed the measurement guide started to wear off. So I used a fine point permanent marker to right then on and I took them back to BRU. Well it happened again. This time I just sucked it up. But I was truly disappointed because the bottles cost so much more than the old ones. Fortunately, my daughter transitioned from a bottle to a cup about a month later (to my surprise). You should contact the company and tell them about your experience. Maybe they'll send you some more bottles are atleast a coupon. If not, take them back to the store where you bought them and complain.

My daughter is 17 mo and I've used Nestle Good Start since she weaned from the breast. We still use the phase 2 formula and we have never had a problem with it. I researched all of the formula's since my daughter had stomach issues when she was a newborn and I found that Good Start claimed they used the simplest protein compound (they break down the protein for easy digestion). If I were you I would definitely switch back to Good start since you didn't have any problems with it. Because the FDA strongly regulates baby food, formula, etc., I'm sure your son was getting all the nutrients he needs from Good Start. My philosophy is... if it's not broke, don't try to fix it.

Good luck,
Q.

Did your pediatrician switch the formula or you? Don't keep changing baby formula, it can cause GI upset and spitting up in little ones. Always consult your childs doctor before making a formula change.Use a sharpie to rewrite the measurements on the bottles before they fade completely off. Also, using a dishwasher can get the measurements to fade off quicker.

They never suggest you go from Goodstart or Infamil to Similac or any other brand for this exact reason. But Similac is bad for it in particular. I'm not saying Similac is a bad formula but Infamil is easier to change from and good start (well i have my opinions about goodstart) but Similac is known to be a brand if you use something else or plan on using something else don't switch from or too Similac. Use it and stay with it or don't use it.
As far as bottles my only thing is these days things are made cheaply and if you buy at walmart things are made even cheaper... So i would suggest either buy them from somewhere other than walmart or buy a different brand if you don't want cheap stuff.
good luck

I'm not sure about the bottles...could be that in their rush to get the BPA-free bottles on the market, they didn't do a lot of testing to make sure the paint would stay on the outside. If you want to still use them, you could just use a measuring cup to pour the water in.

As for the formula, definitely go back to the Good Start if that was working for your baby. The "Early Shield" part of the Similac formula is not really about the antioxidents, but more about the pro-biotics that are added to the formula. If you want, you could try the Good Start Natural Cultures which has the probiotics.

Good luck!
