Orange Oily Discharge from 5 Year Old Anus

Hi Moms,
My 5 year old daughter went to use the bathroom the morning (to urinate), and I noticed about 5-6 drops of what looked like drops of orange color oil floating on the commode. I wiped her bottom and noticed that she has some more of it and also has a little stain of it on her undies. I Cleaned her up and have rechecked to see if any more of it will pass out, but none so far. I tried to make her have a bm, but doesn't feel like it. She has no other symptoms with it. No stomach ache, no nausea or vomiting, and no diarrhea.
Has any one ever experienced this with their kids? Should I be concerned? call her pediatrician? Please advice.

What can I do next?

I would absolutely discuss this with your child's pediatrician. They may want to refer you to a pediatric GI specialist.

Has she been eating Cheetos? Or anything else with that orangey-yellow artificial cheese? That could be it.

Definitely see your pediatrician. This is a sign of fat malabsorption, which can be caused by many different things. A good doctor can help you find the cause, which could be as benign as something she ate (like the Olestra).

Did she eat anything that contained olestra ? Found in Potato chips and other snack foods. I causes the body not to absorb the fat and you will have an oily discharge. Other wise I would call the Doctor to have it checked out. Good luck!

I would say it sounds like she ate some oily foods like olestra like someone mentioned. And are you sure it's oily and not a little blood?

The only similar case I know of is if you take the dietary suppliment/fat blocker Alli. It keeps your body from absorbing all the oils in your food, so they come instead you find orange oil floating in the toilet with your BM's or staining your underwear. Maybe your daughter could be having trouoble absorbing fats? If it continues, I woudl definitely see the pediatrician, since it is not normal.

Hello M.,
We have never experienced this. I always call the nurses line at our doctors office if I have any questions. They are usually good at getting right back to me and answering any questions I might have. If anything it will give you peace of mind. Good luck.
