Hi -
Our family is moving to the Muskegeon area at the end of the summer, but I need to schedule some doctor appts now! I need some info on the doctors or medical centers in the area. First of all, I'll need to find an OB, but I also need info on other services. My old doctor was in a women's center, where they had all services under one roof (drs, mammograms, support groups, weight counseling.) Is there anything like that? What else should I know about moving doctors. Are there good hospitals nearby?

Help!
Thanks so much for your info. This is a great site.

So What Happened?

I can't thank everyone enough for the WONDERFUL input on Muskegeon hospitals and doctors. Great to know that whether Hackley or Mercy, there are a lot of options. Thanks again! Hope to meet you when we're there!

a great OBGYN in muskegon is Dr. Cadeana at Great Lakes OBGYN you WILL love her. the birthing center is a great place as well. the birthing center is its own building and very very safe. the doctors and the staff there are the sweetest people in the world. you will love every single person you meet at Great Lakes OBGYN and at Mercy General Birthing Center

I would second the recommendation of Dr. Lourice David for an OB. She was my OB for the birth of both of my sons. There is a new medical facility near the Lakes Mall. Before the merge of Mercy and Hackley, it was called Hackley at the Lakes. I think they have just about everything you need there. My primary care doctor is there -- Dr. Mary West. My sons go to Dr. Koryn VanIttersum in the same office. My husband goes to Dr. Crandle in another family practice in the same building. We all really like our doctors. There is radiology and lab in the building. Also a pharmacy and a group of OB's as well as some others. Hope this helps.

Hi J. and welcome to Muskegon!!! Hopefully I can help you out. First of all, you'll need to check with your insurance company to see what doctors are in their network. If Dr. Lourice David is on the list and accepting new patients, then she's the one I would highly receommend.

Second, the three area hospitals: Hackley, Mercy and General have recently merged together to become Mercy Health Partners. Of the three locations, Hackley provides the best women's care and when more services are merged, the Hackley campus is expected to provide all the OB/GYN care along with Pediatrics. On another note, the Emergency Room at Hackley is one of the best across the nation with an average "door to doctor" time of about 18 minutes.

Sure hopes this helps and I know you'll love the Muskegon area. Good Luck!!

Hi there, welcome to Muskegon, when you get here! I would like to recommend Great Lakes OB/GYN Specialists. From what I've heard all the doctors there are great! Personnally, I had Dr. Mark T. Karnes, D.O. He's an older guy but he is the best! And he is surgeon too so if there are any problems---I had to have a c-section and he was wonderful! I would also recommend Mercy General Health Partners for a hospital. Their Oak Campus has a birthing center and it is very nice. I have two children and I had one at each of Muskegon's two hospitals and I prefer Mercy. I hope this was helpful for you! Good Luck!

Hi and welcome to Muskegon! It's been a while since I've had need of an OB (my baby is 10) but I've had some really good family doctors. Unfortunatly they have moved to other areas to practice. BUT, if you are looking for a really good pediatrician - Dr. Nicles is wonderful! I can not say enough GOOD things about him. The others in the same office are good as well. If you prefer a woman there is one in the office also. The number there is ###-###-####. (Port City Pediatrics)

Good Luck with your move!

K.

Hi J.

I live in Muskegon and I really enjoyed Hackley Lakes OB/Gyn, all the doctors are wonderful there and there is also a women's center in the same building (not sure if this is similar to what you had before). I also like Port City Pediatrics and all the doctors are accepting new patients (depending on insurance). Also, Harborwood has some great doctors too for a family care. I know there are a lot of good doctors in Muskegon, but I have had experience with these. Good luck.
