Seeking OB GYN in Northwest OKC

I moved here about a year and a half ago and have continued to see my OB GYN back home when on vacation (what a treat). Now that I know we will be staying here,I would like to find a local doctor that I can depend on.

I am looking for a doctor that is experienced, compassionate and prefer a person of faith. I don't care if they are male or female. I am looking to have another baby in the next year or so, and need someone who has a good bedside manner.

I would prefer responses of mothers who have had good experience with pregnancy and delivery. I also must metion that I live in Northwest OKC, but am very close to Edmond. I am willing to travel a little bit if it is for the best care.

What can I do next?

I go to Dr Karen Wilks at Center for Womens Health at Mercy Hospital. She is wonderful. She has delivered my two boys and would not have it any other way. If she is not taking new clients, then any of the other doctors are also worth going too.

S., see my post about Dr. Joe Paul Merritt, M.D. He has a wonderful, compassionate and understanding, bedside manner and yet, is very professional. He has a great reputation, even with hardware suppliers for the medical profession. Dr. Merritt's phone number is ###-###-#### and he is located in the Deaconess Medical Building just South of Baptist Hospital. Dr. Merritt has been my OB/Gyn since 1995 and I would never consider consulting another Gyn.

I would highly suggest Dr. Margaret Hall. She is with the Lakeside Women's Hospital, which is close to your location. She delivered both of my children. She is so great! She is very compasionate and truly listens to your cares and concerns. Welcome to the area and I hope you have an easy time finding just the right Dr. for you.

Dr. Darren Goff is so wonderful. He is thoughtful, beyond the call of duty, and very compassionate, and extremely skillful. I'm told he specializes in high rick pregnancies. He's very understanding and very kind. He is a man of faith, integrity, and honesty.
He is so wonderful that while in the hospital every time a nurse would come in the room and ask who my doctor was they would all start gushing about how great he is and how all the nurses love him and how none of them would let anyone else deliver their babies!
His office is at Mercy hospital. I don't remember his office phone number off the top of my head, but I'm sure it's in the phone book.

I love my OB, Dr. Karen Reisig ###-###-####. My daughter was born in Oct. 2006, and we are expecting a 2nd in September. She has privileges at Mercy and Deaconess, but she prefers Mercy and her office is directly across from the Mercy. I had a wonderful birthing experience, both with respect to my doctor as well as my hospital. Her staff is fabulous and very responsive, and i think that she would be very responsive to your individual needs, I tend to ask a lot of questions, and she is always helpful and listens well when I have concerns about my care.

Since you're not yet pregnant and have some time before you need to commit, I would recommend meeting a few doctors before deciding. I didn't have that option when we moved here because I got pregnant before I had a Doc and was under the gun, but I'm sure most would be willing to spend a few minutes with you. I did that with my daughter's pediatrician, and am very glad I did.

I am in my first pregnancy and see Amanda K Levine, she is in Edmond. I really like her, she is in her mid 30's, she has partnered up with an OB that has been around for a very long time. She has a fairly new practice, which I like because it is easy to get an appointment. She does not rush through the office visit and is very thorough. Her nurses are great too.

I would like to warn you about Lakeside, it is a very popular OB partnership. I have friends who use doctors their and have heard many bad things. They have taken too many patients and their care has been compromised. My sister in law was having a miscarriage, her doctor would not see her for weeks and she could not get in to one of her partners. She had to go to the office and just sit there until they finally worked her in over 4 hours later! They are bad about returning phone calls, you can't switch doctors if you have problems with one in the partnership.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I absolutely love the midwives at OU medical center, specifically Ann Stewart. I was seeing an OB/GYN with my first pregnancy and at 7 months pregnant I switched b/c I waited for hours nearly every visit to see my OB - Dr. Andrea Doeden- and then when I would finally see her I was always rushed or just had to see the nurse and then when I called to ask questions that the nurse could not answer, the doctor called back and left a message saying she was to busy to play phone tag and that I needed to wait until my next appt. to ask my questions. Well, I didn't make another appt. and switched to the midwifes and wow, what a differance in care!! Ann Stewart would sit with me at least 30 minutes and answer my questions and she made me feel so important and my labor was so awesome. I was even able to do it without an epidural or any other medical intervention partly thanks to Ann.

The one thing I do caution you about OU Medical Center is that you need to watch the billing. They pad the billing and charge for procedures you didn't have. But to see Ann, it's worth that hastle.

I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Nancy Bishop. She practices at Lakeside Women's Hospital and also at Mercy. I have personally used her for a delivery and also have worked with her. She has a wonderful, caring bedside manner and is a Christian. I cannot say enough great things about her.
