Hi!
My family has been in the process of relocating to San Antonio TX, but just might end up relocating to Houston - not completely sure yet - however, I wanted to find out if someone is familiar with the Woodlands area, what they think of it and if anyone has any recommendations of a good Pediatrician & OBGYN in that area.
Thanks a bunch!
S.

I agree with Stacy, Amy and Dayna. Dr. Roland Flanagan ###-###-#### is an excellent pediatician. I HIGHLY reccommend him. As far as The Woodlands, I have lived here for 19 years and I have seen this area develop and change, and it is an excellent place foe raising children with the many festivals, and family-friendly activities. If you are seriously looking for a place to live, I can give you more sound advice than any realtor, because I am not out to sell anything. I will just tell you the truth about what areas are the best or better than others. So feel free to ask me for advice about anything about The Woodlands and I'll be glad to let you know.

The welcome mat is out! The Woodlands is one of the friendliest and best laid out family communities we've ever lived in! I'm sure you will get a number of helpful referrals. Great doctors, dentists, daycares and churches.
My obgyn is Dr. Williams ###-###-####, family Dr. Mueck ###-###-####, & pediatrician Dr. Purcell (sp?) ###-###-####. They are all great! Professional/honorable/friendly realtor: Heather Burton ###-###-####. I have to admit, she's my daughter but I've seen her in action - totally commited to her clients and THEIR needs. Call me if you get in town, we'll have lunch. ###-###-#### Either way God Speed and many blessing to your and your family.

The Woodlands is a great place to live and raise a family and Montgomery County in general has lower taxes and insurance rates than Harris County. The Woodlands has absolutely everything you need without having to venture into Houston if you don't want to. There are two hospitals and lots of doctors to choose from.

I am a Realtor and would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Feel free to log onto my web site www.ClaudiaHohlt.com where there are links to tons of local stuff as well as access to local home listings.

Hi S.,

We moved to the Woodlands 12 years ago. We absolutely love it here. I have four children and have had three of them while I have lived here.

I know everyone thinks they have the most awesome OB/GYN, but I truly do! :) I'll back that by telling you that I have referred tons of people to him over the years of all ages for all reasons and I haven't had anyone not love him yet.

Years ago, one of my best friends switched to him in her 8th month of pregnancy (she was having some concerns with her current doctor), and was blown away at the difference.

His name is R. David Reeves. He is with Women's Healthcare Affiliates. The web address is www.wha-abgyn.com. They have a beautiful new office here in The Woodlands.

With four kids, you can believe that I've been the rounds with pediatricians. We've been going to Forest Pediatrics with Dr. Murray Fershtman and Trecia Ellahee for the past six years. They have a great new facility also. It has an emergency area in the middle. They can also do much of their own testing there.

The best thing is that they have after hours clinic until 9:00 p.m. Mon - Thurs. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. They even have their own pharmacy next door.

I really like their entire staff (nurses, front desk, and even the doctors that fill in). That happens to be extremely important to me.

Their information is www.forestpediatric.com and the phone number is ###-###-####.

Good luck! I know that doctors are one of the hardest things to change when you move!

Hi, S.! Welcome to the Houston area!
I know you mentioned looking for an OB/GYN, but if you're contemplating The Woodlands, I just had to mention Nativiti Birthing Center. The midwives there, Melanie and Katherine, are incredible and make you feel like a whole person, not just another patient. I've had all 3 of my babies there and continue to go see them for my regular yearly gyn appointments, too. I know that not everyone prefers this route, but if it's something you've ever pondered, this is definitely the place to go. And so far as birthing centers go, Nativiti is considered one of the "cadillacs" of the midwife/birthing center world. Melanie is constantly being asked at nation-wide conferences about how to set up a birthing center like hers. I love Nativiti and can't recommend them highly enough!!

Good luck in your move and I hope you find everything you need and desire!

Hi S.-

I've lived in San Antonio and for 15 years New Braunfels, and now have been in The Woodlands for 5 years.
Here is what I notice as a comparison: Housing costs more in central Texas, while everything else seems to cost more in TW. We call it "The Woodlands discount". If you call a plumber, go to a veterinarian, put your child in after-school activities, etc. it all seems to cost much more than we were used to paying. If you are willing to have a little bit "older" house you can get a lot for your money here.
There are though many wonderful free things to do here, and I'd say TW excels in this area. We use the miles of trails, greenbelts and parks a lot. We attend the symphony- some of which are very kid-friendly and use the free lawn seating (taking a picnic), the pools are great and plentiful, the YMCA is wonderful, there are concerts in the park, festivals and all of these things feel easy to get to. In San Antonio there is some feeling of "battling" the city to get places and do things. In general, daily life is quite pleasant and simple here, and of course it is beautiful even if different.
Having lived in central Texas most of my life I do miss the blue skies and greater sunlight that we get there. The high humidity and frequently overcast skies are wearying to me.
The high schools have a lot to offer. If your children reach an elite level of their activity they will have top programs to participate in. If they are more "average" they might possibly be shut out of activities. We have had both types of children pass through high school here- from a state champion winner (multiple times) to the one who was "cut" from her program that she worked hard in. There is also a tremendous amount of AP credit opportunity for high school students, which helped my two who have now gone on to college to reduce their course load there; but it is nearly impossible to be in the top 10% ranking as opposed to schools in central Texas (which reduced some college scholarship money for one).
All in all we like it here very much, but do go outside of TW for many services to make them more affordable.
I know a good orthodontist and dentist in Conroe where we go, and they charge much less than the "local" dentists. (dentist: Atwood and orthodontist: Middleton)
I know a good auto repair place (we had some really bad experiences with either being overcharged or outright robbed by auto mechanics our first couple of years here) which is across the other side of 45 in Oak Ridge: A. Davis Auto Repair.
I don't know pediatricians here. We do a very good job of staying healthy, and I think pediatrics came about as a specialty (as opposed to family practice which is where children used to go) primarily to support the burgeoning vaccination business. I know my kids weight, height, etc. is fine and don't need to have a professional tell me so, or give them unnecessary antibiotics, etc....this is another topic.
I don't know an OBGYN either as I have always been well and happily served by midwives; and my midwives are in Central Texas. I know there are some here too.

Hi S.,

I have lived in the Woodlands for 4 years, and prior to that, I worked here. I love it here! It is a great place to raise a family. Everyone is so nice and friendly, and there is a great sense of community. It has a small town feeling.

As far as pediatricians, I highly recommend Dr. Bernadette Haggerty with Texas Children's Pediatrics. The phone number is ###-###-####, and it is located on Medical Plaza Drive, across from Memorial Herman Hospital in the Woodlands. Both of my girls love her! She goes above and beyond for each and every patient. She takes her time and answers all of your questions. You never feel rushed. She is genuine and really cares about her patients. She has three children, close in age to my own. I have friends who have the same pediatrician, and they love her too. You could also schedule a time just to sit and talk with her before selecting a pediatrician. When I was pregnant with my first, my husband and I sat and talked with her. We are so happy we chose her! I could go on and on!

Good luck and welcome to the Woodlands!

Hi S.,

The Woodlands is a wonderful area, we've been living here for 9 yrs and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. There's everything here, I hardly ever leave the Woodlands. There are wonderful parks, community pools & approx 100 miles of hike & bike trails. There's lots of great shopping here too with the Market Square & The Woodlands Mall, which is nice.
As for a Pediatrician, my daughter sees Dr. Roland Flanagan at Texas Pediatrics, he's awesome! He really takes the time with all his patients, he really does care. He even called me one weekend while he was out of town to see how my daughter was doing, she had been in the hospital for dehydration. I can't say enough good things about him, he's the best in my opinion. Their number is ###-###-####.
As for an OBGYN, I can't help you there as I just see our family Dr.
If you do move to the Woodlands and you need anymore info, I'd be happy to help.
Good luck!

You'll love the Woodlands! I have lived here since 95' and really appreciate the great quality of life. There are miles and miles of bike/hike paths, parks galore, swim facilities, great shopping and dining and excellent schools. The Houston Theatre District, Museum District, Downtown area and Med. Center are within driving distance. Our pediatrician is Dr. Flanagan with Texas Children's Pediatrics on Research Forest Dr. He is friendly and knowledgeable. TX. Children's Pediatrics is part of the network, so if your children needs a specialist, it's very easy to get a referral to TX. Children's Hospital in the Med. Center. My son needed a specialized day surgery at 6 months and was comforted that we were in one of the very best children's hospitals. Good luck!

The Woodlands is a great family oriented place to live. We have been here since 2000. We hardly ever go into Houston for anything. Everything we need is here.
The OB/GYN group Women's Healthcare Affiliates is great. Dr. Giannotti is my doctor, but the important thing is that he has a good group of partners too. You never know when you might have to see another doctor in the group and it important that they are good too.
I use Dr. Fershtman for our pediatrician. He has kids and is a great problem solver.
Good luck!

hey there. I am from canyon lake and moved to the woodlands almost 2 and a half years ago. it is so awesome and beautiful. everything is so convenient. 2 hospitals, a mall, 3 Walmarts, 3 HEB's, even Krogers and Randalls. Lots of parks and walking trails that are safe even at night. As for pediatricians, my daughters pediatrician is at the northwoods pediatric center in spring/the woodlands. they take chips and medicaid. And as for the OBGYN I go to Dr Rawson across the street from Memorial Hermann Hospital here in the Woodlands. I have PCOS and he sorta specializes in that. Hope I was helpful. Good luck on the move.

We use Dr. Flanagan (a man) for a pediatrician. He's very good and takes his time with us.

I have used Dr. Everson (a woman) for an ob/gyn and really like her. They're both in The Woodlands. (I hardly ever leave The Woodlands. We've got pretty much anything you'd want here.) A good website, among many others, that you might check out is www.woodlandsonline.com. They have free classifieds and an extensive business directory, among other things.

I just moved to the Woodlands from Denver a year ago. It is beautiful with all of the big trees and such. It is a nice safe area. Lots of different restaurants to eat at, not a ton of chain stuff(except by the mall). My OB/GYN is Dr. Carol Collins or Dr. Breazele, they are in the same office, they are both very nice. My pediatrician is in Spring and is amazing, Dr.Seth Kravitz.

I've lived in Houston almost all my life. The Woodlands is a great area. Lots of good shopping and family stuff. As far as pediatricians, I go to Texas Children's Pediatric Associates in Conroe (next suburb from Woodlands) and see Dr. Kelli Williams. I love her. Also, for OB/GYN, try Dr. Mary Prentice. Hope this has helped. Also, if you go to San Antonio (lived there a year) try living on the North West side (1604, Bulverde). It is nice and growing!

Hello,

The Woodlands is a great place to relocate to. We recently moved here from California and I absolutely love it. You have all the amenities and shopping of a big city but without the bad elements of a big city. As far as a pediatrician I have two girls and we go to Texas Childrens Pediatric Associates in the Woodlands and they see Dr. Irani. I hear that all of the doctors in that group are great. I love it because we never have to wait long to see the doctor and she is always available. As for OB/GYN I see Dr. Jenna Everson. She is also in the Woodlands. She is very good.

Good luck on your move!

I love The Woodlands! We moved here from Minnesota 5 years ago and find it to be a high quality family environment, although, it all depends on the Subdivision - I live in Copper Sage. It is a neighborhood where my kids, 11 and 6, play outside almost all the time with other neighborhood kids. I would not move away! It is a great place to raise my children. However, just like any other city or community you/anyone would find any pros and cons, still in my opinion there are more positive than negative issues. As per a pediatrician, I take my kids to Texas Children Pediatricians in Sterling Ridge and I am pleased with their attention/care but, we have just taken our kids for anual check ups (our kids are very healthy). If you decide to move here I would be happy to recommend you a good Realtor and my husband owns a mortgage company and he'll be very happy to assist you if you need any help.

Our pediatrician is with the Texas Children's Association. Her name is Dr. Bernadette Haggerty ###-###-####). She was our third pediatrician (the other two we were not pleased with). Our boys love her (ages 9, 4, 1). She makes them feel at ease and does little birdy noises when she checks their ears (they love it because they try to find the bird or mimic her).
OBY/GN recommmendations is Specialist for Women ###-###-####). There are I believe 4 or 5 doctors and are all wonderful.

I have noticed that you have quite a few responses. I use Dr. Teresa Romero as my pediatrician for 3 of my 4 children. She is with Kelsey-Seybold in TW. I also used Kelsey-Seybold for my OB/GYN in TW. I noticed that someone recommend Dr. Siddiqui with Kelsey. My step-daughter used to go to her. What we noticed is that the doctor allowed the biological mother to bully her into giving needless prescriptions. She also made several prescriptions without seeing the patient. The doctor only went on the word of the b. mother.

I know this sounds like it may just be a custody issue. But I have it down in my kids' records for Dr. Siddiqui to NOT touch my children under any circumstances. Just thought you would want to know. Now I love the other 3 doctors in the office. Dr. Kovak is WONDERFUL with the babies!

We love the area! We lived in The Woodlands from 1996-2007, we just moved across the freeway to Imperial Oaks, we got alot more house and alot newer for a much better price. We still enjoy all the benefits of the Woodlands without the high maintenance fees. Imperial Oaks is very family friendly they have several activities throughout the year for the family and you don't have to pay extra to use the pools. We have bike trails and an elementary school within the subdivision.
As for docs we love our pediatrician--Texas Childrens Pediatric Assoc. ###-###-####, we actually see Dr. Lapis, but we have see Dr. Flanagan several times when our doc is out of the office. Actually, we've seen all of the associates there and you can't go wrong, they are all great! If you need a realtor, we used Susan Brown with Keller Williams, she is actually in Humble, but she did a great job finding us a house. If you google Your Texas Connection humble texas I'm sure she will come up, sorry I don't have her number handy.
Safe traveling!

My pediatrition is great Dr Susan O'Neil in the Sterling Ridge Texas Childrens Office and my Ob/Gyn is Dr Rawson and I am extremely happy with both - I have had 3 children (all delivered by Rawson and they all see O'Neil).
