I live in San Marcos and I'm looking for any recommendations for OB GYN. I'm also open to midwives, too! Please let me know if you've got any recommendations.

What can I do next?

I L. my OB. Dr. Karen Kohatsu of Poway Womens Care. She is actually in RB. I know it's a drive for you, but totally worth it. Especially because she uses Pomerado Hospital, which the is THE BEST! Trust me, I was there on and off for a whole month before my daughter was born. Both she and the staff at Pomerado took excellent care of me and my daughter. It was like staying at a hotel with my own cable, dvd player, fridge, microwave, jacuzzi tub, and a pretty good menu for meals (you get to pick from a good selection, you aren't just given whatever is being served that day). Not to mention the snack lady that comes by twice a day offering all kinds of yummy treats and drinks...all part of your stay...no extra charge. Another good thing about Pomerado is the lactation consultants and the Women's Boutique. They walked me through step by step on breastfeeding. The LC's came by for every feeding the 4 days after my c-section. And they offer a free lactation support group twice a week at the Women's Boutique. You can also buy/rent your breast pump, borrow all kinds of women's health related books, buy properly fitting nursing bras (thank you Chris for helping me out!), and pretty much anything you need as a woman from the Boutique.

For a midwife...a friend of mine is training to be one so I know she can point you in the right direction...trust her...she's had 6 kids! You can check her out at http://moms.meetup.com/1143/. Her name is Anna, and she is the organizer of the group. Just let her know that S. K from the meetup group referred you. I don't think you have to sign up or join the group to send her a PM with questions regarding midwifery. But joining the group would be fun! All the gals are really nice and very supportive.

I use the doctors at North Coast Women's Care in Vista. They have delivered both of my children. Any doctor there is great. Their phone number is ###-###-####.

Also, you might want to check with your primary physician to see who they recommend you go to...especially if you have an HMO for insurance.

Congratulations!

It's a bit of a drive, but I highly recommend Pacific Coast Women's Health in Encinitas (on El Camino). I actually have a friend that lives in San Marcos that went to this group as well.

Dr. Gerber & Dr. Shipp nurtured me through my pregnancy & delivered my babies. However, each dr. there is fantastic.

My husband & I liked going to this office because all of the staff was friendly & very understanding of everything we were going through, before & after the babies' birth. We felt so special even though the drs see tons pregnant women, all the time.

Congrats on your great news & best of luck. Enjoy every minute!!!

Since you said "midwives" too - I'll tell you mine. Michelle Freund of Birth Matters ###-###-####, her office is in Oceanside very close to the 5 and 78. I don't know if you plan to deliver in a hospital, but she only does home births. I never wanted a home birth, but after meeting Michelle, I became intrigued and she delivered my first B.. She is wonderful, I can't say enough about her. She does free consultations, so it wouldn't hurt just to meet her and talk to her! She also delivered my brother's 2 most recent babies and he says she is the "Michael Jordan" of midwives - meaning, she's the best in her field!
