Finding a Good OB

I recently found out that I am pregnant. We are new to Houston and are having trouble finding a good OB. This is our fourth and our older three were all born in a Birthing Center with midwives in Dallas. I need help finding a good Dr. as I don't want to just look one up online. So, if you have had a good experience with one in the Spring/Woodlands area I would appreciate the name. Thanks.

What can I do next?

My doctor, Dr. Johnathan Russell has an office on 1960 and Red Oak and he is wonderful. This coming from a Labor and Delivery nurse should be interesting to you!! I have been a patient of his for over 3 years and have worked in deliveries with Dr. Russell for almost 4 years. Hope that helps.

You will find that most of the hospitals in the Houston area are very old-fashioned in the way that they treat their "patience". There is a birthing center in your area. I don't know if you have looked into it or not, but it is called Nativiti Women's Health & Birth Center. Their direct link is: http://www.nativiti.com/index.html.

I hope this helps! If you are interested in having a doula help and work with you during your pregnancy and delivery, I am willing to talk to you about it!

Good luck in your search!

Welcome to The Woodlands! My husband works at Memorial Hermann - The Woodlands Hospital. He knows many of the OB/Gyn docs and has seen their work. His opinion is that you need to find a group of doctors that are all good. That way if your OB is not able to be at the delivery, you don't have to worry. His suggestion is Women's Healthcare Affiliates. Their phone number is ###-###-####. The doctors there are all good. Dr. Giannotti is my doc. He has delivered all three of my boys. The youngest was just born in October. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I've been to Dr. Crowder as an obgyn. He's further up in the recomendations. He was a good doctor. However,I used Alice with Houston Birthing Center in Humble for my son's birth. She is absolutely wonderful! She not only delivered my son, but she has delivered a total of at least 6 babies for people that I know. And she's going to be doing another delivery for one friend later this year. She's had a couple of decades of experience. Her office number is ###-###-####. She can do the delivery in her center or she can come to your home. We did it at home and the experience was great!!

I am a doula in the north part of Harris County, so have seen a lot of births with a lot of doctors & midwives. If you are in the Spring/Woodlands area, then I strongly second the people who have said Nativiti. If you, for some reason, want a hospital birth, Jane Reed at Mem. Hermann Woodlands has a reputation for being "normal birth friendly". Patricia Laden at St. Luke's Woodlands has a good reputation as well, but I've heard some less than desireable things about their birth facility.

I strongly recommend my OB/GYN. His name is Alan G. Moore and he is located in the Medical Plaza just north of the Woodlands mall. His phone is ###-###-####. His staff is very cordial and helpful. I have been seeing him since 1990 and he performed my hysterectomy. I see happy moms to be in his office each time I visit him. He is a very well informed individual with strong Christian beliefs and a wonderfully sympathetic ear.

There is a birthing center in the woodlands on oakridge right off the 45 feeder road. I think it might be the wellness center - if it is not affiliated with them, I am sure they can direct you the right way.

Otherwise, I really like Dr. Behne with the women's healthcare affiliates in the woodlands.

Congratulations and good luck.

Just came from my OB today. He is WONDERFUL!!! He is older and holds more degrees than I could possible remember. He used to be the Senior Practionier, but recently scaled down to a single office. His name is Dr. Jacob Tal. He has offices in several locations: Memorial Herman Hosp. Prof. Building (Memorial City), Grand Parkway Memorial Herm. Hosp. Prof. Building. & I think there is another location, but I don't remember. His Ph.# ###-###-####. I have several of his colleagues phone #'s too, but send me a message if you want those (females too). Can't say enough about Dr. Tal...he is very comforting and just plain old...wise!

I had a great experience with the Midwives at St Lukes hospital. You get all the benefits of a midwife (personalized attention, less tendency to treat birth like a medical event but more like a natural one, etc) but in case something goes wrong you're right in the hospital and can get all the help you need. They also have good OB's there, but the midwives are really special.

There is a birthing center really close to you in the woodlands that is suppose to be awesome. Their website is www.nativiti.com . Also you can find lost of information for area midwives at www.houbirth.org. My midwife in Katy was thinking of opening a birth center but I don't think it would be ready for you. I would really look into Nativiti or find a midwife that would go with you to the hospital if you're not comfortable with homebirth.

If you want to deliver at a birthing center, there is one in the Woodlands called Nativiti. I delivered my 2nd child there and it was awesome. They have two midwives on staff, Melanie and Kathernine. Katherine delivered my girl and she was great. You can set up a tour and talk to the midwives before you decide to deliver there. Hope that helps.

Mine is a little on the eccentric side, but I adore him. He is at FM 1960 and Red Oak, behind the Starbucks. There is a big sign over the door that says something about gastroenterology and is right next to the 1960 Family Practice. His name is Robert Jackson. My best freind and mom also use him. Good luck!

Try Jane Reed in the Woodlands. She was excellent for my sister who had a high risk pregnancy. I have just started seeing Dr. Irwin in Kingwood, but I understand their practice has many offices. It is called Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates, their main office is in Houston on Fannin, they have a website with the same name.It is very helpful in choosing one of their many doctor's. I know a few people who see a different doctor at the same practice and they are all happy.

Hi there, congratulations on your pregnancy! :) I LOVE my OB--her name is Dr. Terry Scott and she is in the Woodlands, in the Sadler Clinic. She was fantastic, has young twins of her own, and went above and beyond for us when my youngest was born with colic. She even gave us her personal sling in hopes that it would help soothe our baby. Her staff is also very nice, efficient and I never waited longer than 10 minutes in her office. She is fantastic! Good luck with everything, I hope you find the right doctor for you. :)
