Influenza a & B... plus Strep!

My four year old DS has influenza a & b and step, just found out yesterday. The doctor told me that he is extremely contagious and he can not have any contact with my DD who is just about fourteen weeks. She tested negative for the influenza a & b but positive strep.
So we have quarantined my DS in his room for the next FIVE days, following doctors instructions.

We are only on day two and he is miserable! On top of not feeling good he is lonely and seems really sad. My DH moved the tv & dvd player into his room for right now and he has all his coloring books and toys in there with him, since it is his room. But I just feel so bad. I am trying to think of something else that I can get him that he can do when he is in there??

The doctor said all the different meds he is on are going to make him so tired he wont really want to do anything, and yesterday he went to bed at four and he woke up just this morninng around eight so I know that the meds are really effecting him.

Anything you ladies can think of is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

If he's up for it, activity books are good. Books with papers and patterns to make paper airplanes are fun, or origami kits, spy kits with decoder books and toys. Some have kits for making balloon animals, others have watercolors etc. Borders books is a good place to find these sorts of books. My kids love seek and find books like Where's Waldo? I bought them each giant plastic magnifying glasses to add to the fun of the search.

A nerf basketball and hoop on the door might be fun if he has energy or wants to move around. Old school handheld electronic games are always fun. There are two electronic versions of the Rubik's cube, and several versions of handheld/mini electronic word games, electronic versions of Battleship, Connect Four, Simon, Bop It and Pinball. Any stores like Target Walmart, K-mart have these types of games.

If the TV has the hookups, you can buy those cheap plug in tv video arcade games. There are a variety of Disney versions, Thomas, Spiderman, and others.

When my guy was sick last year, he enjoyed all of these things. He also really enjoyed having a pillowpet, and nice bubble bath/shower gels (Johnson and Johnson makes a menthol scented bath gel that's great for muscle tightness and stuffy noses), and a hotwater bottle that looked like a teddybear for aches pains and comfort. Warm teas sweetend with honey, hot apple cider, cocoa, soups, puddings, jello, Pedia-popss, ice cream and mac n' cheese, iced ginger ale, homemade juice spritzers, and natural sodas were favorite comfort foods that were easy on the throat.

Grandma called him a couple of times while he was sick. He loved getting phone calls. Be sure to not use a phone that others will handle, or at least sanitize it with a antibacterial Clorox wipe.

If you have a pet, let the pet stay in the room with him. Our guy loved having the dog in his room. Just be sure to not forget the dog in there! He'll want water, food and breaks! LOL.

When will the antibiotics kick in... and he not being 'contagious?"
Ask your Pediatrician.
Even after that, watch out for any relapses....
Sanitize the home.
Hopefully you and your Husband don't have it either or are not carrying the virus?
Did the Doctor test you both too, or just your 14 month old?

Someone will have to keep him company since he is lonely... and sad.
That is hard...
movies, games, crafts, sleeping since he is sick too... tv... does he have a computer he can use???? he can do online learning sites like PBS kids etc.

give him an early present of a nintendo ds if it is at all possible within your budget. we have always quarantined our kids when they're ill(we have 3). we have a portable tv/dvd player that stays locked in a closet unless someone is sick. they almost get excited to be sick(maybe once a year, thank God) b/c they know they will never really have a tv in their room. but my 4yo and 7yo boys LOVE their ds lites, and it entertains them for hours. try not to feel too bad and be sure he knows that he's not being punished, and you remember that you are doing this in the best interest of your family, so try not to feel bad. it's only for a few days. good luck and i hope he's better very soon and no one else gets it.

poor kid! Are there any movies out he wants to see that you could redbox for him? It's only a dollar a day, so pretty affordable.
