Hi Moms! My husband and I are thinking about a last minute road trip next weekend or the next. We want to go somewhere mountainess with lakes for fishing, cabins, camping, but near a town with nice people. Something with an old town feel. But no more then 9 hours from Denton Tx. Any ideas?

All the places mentioned sound really hot! If you're trying to escape the heat, I'd say head to New Mexico. I bet Ruidoso is about 8 hours from DFW, and Angel Fire or Red River is probably about 9 hours. Maybe 10. We spend a week in Angel Fire every summer and it is soooo nice. If you don't mind the heat, Quartz Mountain near Altus, OK is really nice too. HTH!

Turner Falls in OK. So much fun and only 1 hour away. You could spend the day in the waterfalls.

Hi There...We live in Flower Mound and when we want a quick getaway like you are talking about, we often go to Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow, OK. It's not particularly mountainess, but it has lots of rolling hills and is very wooded. There are TONS of cabins you can rent, a beautiful lake and lots of camping. The town is small but friendly. It's very pretty and peaceful there.

Enjoy your trip wherever you go!

Beaver's Bend in Broken Bow Oklahoma is a great place to go! There are cabins to rent, fishing, canoe rentals, swimming. Even a little town with shops and restaurants. It is about a 3 hour drive from Dallas. My husband and I enjoyed a Momma/Daddy get away there and it was WONDERFUL.

Branson--not downtown, but on the outskirts near Table Rock. You can find lots of cabins around there yet be close enough to town for when you need/want civilization.
