Need Ideas for Romantice Weekend Getaway for Anniversary???

Hello to all of you mommies!

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of where to go in Missouri or Illinois (I live in the St. Louis Area) for a romantic weekend. It will be my 3 year anniversary in october and my husband and I want to do something special.. (our first year my son was about to be born and the 2nd year we spent it as a family).. I just cant think of anything thats not too expensive. I was thinking maybe a bed and breakfast. Any ideas or where have any of you have gone that was nice, relaxing and not horribly expensive? Any idea would be great thanks in advance! :)

You did not say exactly where you lived but in Illinois I would suggest Southern Illinois. Especially Giant City Logde (in Makanda). There are a ton of cabins nestled in the Giant City State park. The food at the lodge is awesome and the hiking is fabulous. You are also literally minutes from the Wine Trail. I think there are 16 local vineyards. Alto Vineyards and Blue Sky are my faves.
Fell free to ask me any more questions about Southern Illinois, I've lived here for over 30 years! I love it.

Hi S., For Mothers Day my husband took me to The Champaign Lodge in IL. Oh my gosh it was so romantic. They have huge jacuzzi tubs, a shower with a steam room, fireplace, everything you need for a romantic getaway. Make sure to take candles with you. We sat in the jacuzzi and had candles all around it and we drank wine while enjoying it. Just go to their website: www.thechampagnlodge.com. They are a little expensive but it is well worth it. It was one the best Mothers Days I've spent in a long time.
YOu could also look up on the internet, there are hotels or motels with romantic themed rooms. Like: THe Jungle Room, Arabian theme, The Kings Room, the Water Room, Roman theme Room, all kinds of themes and they have jacuzzi tubs too. That was a fun evening too. Hope this helps, have fun, Sharon

I know you said missouri or illinois, but when my fiance proposed to me we had a great time in kansas. we stayed at the chateau avalon. They have realy neat rooms that are themed, all the rooms have a jacuzi. They have a spa on property and the grounds are so beautiful. It's by the kansas speedway and legends so there are plenty of things to do in that area, or you could just stay in your room and relax and enjoy each other. I think it might be on the pricey side but if you go to priceline or hotels.com I think you can get a pretty good deal. I hope this helps.

If you go to Lake of the Ozarks and are looking for a bed-n-breakfast, try The Garden House. (www.thegardenhouse.com) I used to work with one of the owners and she's fabulous! :) Will make any stranger feel welcome.

Or - you can go to Eureka Springs Arkansas... I know, you may be thinking - Arkansas?!? :) But Eureka Springs is awesome! It's about a 5 hour drive from STL (good road trip time w/ the hubby) and there are festivals going on there nearly every weekend in the summer. It's a quiet, diverse community that seems to welcome any 'type' of person. We went there two times around Memorial Day weekend a few years ago and loved their Blues festival. There are lots of art shops, massage places and great restaurants (give Ermillio's a try).

Hope you find something fun - and happy anniversary! :)

My husband and I go stay at a bed in breakfast every year for Valentine's Day. It is Bass and Baskets at the Lake of the Ozarks. Ed and Deb the owners are fabulous and she cooks the most fantastic breakfasts each morning. They are right on the lake. You can check out there website, www.bassandbaskets.com It's pretty reasonible and I think two of the rooms have a jacuzzi hot tub for 2. We have been going there for 5 years now.

My husband and I went to stay at the Chateau on the Lake in Branson last year. The resort is very nice and they have a spa so we treated ourselves to a couples massage.Another idea is to try Eureka Springs, AR. They have numerous bed-n-breakfasts and cabins. It's a quaint little town that is a popular destination for honeymooners and those celebrating an anniversary. Good luck!

Wow you got some great suggestions. I would suggest Branson too. For a wonderful stay, might I suggest a 4d/3night stay for $99 at a 5-star Westgate resort? Of all the resorts, I think theirs is one of the best (we have stayed in several) This place is awesome; luxurious, and close to all the attractions. Westgate has 2 in that area. One in Branson, in the wooded hills(my favorite) and one that overlooks Tablerock lake, with a marina and boat rentals right on the property. To get this special, call 1-800-375-7828 and give them promo code ####-###-#### to get the discount. You may want to upgrade to the 1 bedroom unit, it isn't much more and well worth it. The normal getaways to a place this upscale normally cost over $1100/wk. and are only available to timeshare holders. Like the lady said, you have to sit thru their 90 minute salespitch, but soooo worth it!! They have a conscierge desk that gets you discounts on any attraction you want. Otherwise some of the Bed and Breakfasts are nice. Just do your research on the place to make sure it offers the amenities you want, and is a location that offers other things to do. Enjoy!

Arrow Rock & Rocheport Missouri are both great towns for a weekend away. Both have B&Bs, antique shops, the Katy trail, restaurants & live theater. The Le Bougious (sp?) winery/restaurant is in the next town over. Great food & view.

Also, if you go to Branson, forget the high priced Big Cedar. Stay at the adjacent Red Bud B&B. The guy at Big Cedar recommended it to me as he was having his family stay there. He was right. Much cheaper, fabulous room w/fireplace (we were there in Feb.), full kitchen, LR, whirpool for 2, and of course, a great breakfast on a small lake.

Eureka Springs, AR has some inexpensive places and some "quaint" shops to wander through. The Passion Play is very good. I've heard of some cabins in the woods, but I have no idea how expensive (or inexpensive) they are.
If your looking for in town, my husband and I like to get away to the Embassy Suites (call different in town locations, they are priced differently). They have a managers reception each night for 2 hours (free drinks for 2 hours, sometimes snacks, call for the time), we like the pool and hot tub. The rooms have a sitting room with a pull out couch, small fridge area and a separate bedroom with a door and it's own TV, so if you have to bring the kids you still have your privacy! We sometimes stockpile a few drinks in the room for later and bring our own munchies. The next morning they have a free breakfast buffet.
Sometimes a mini get away in town is what you need, we used to do this a lot, makes me want to go again this weekend!
