Seeking Suggestions for a Weekend Get-away
I am seeking some suggestions for a weekend destination for my husband and I to visit. We live in Allen and we don't want to get too far away....I am thinking of Arkansas, Austin, Oaklahoma. Any suggestions for resorts or bed-and-breakfasts would be appreciated.

Hi E.,
Austin is always great, but Bartlesville OK is nice too. The Price Tower (downtown) looks cool too.
Have a great time!

Try the Shiloh Morning Inn in Ardmore, OK. It's halfway between Dallas and Oklahoma City so a nice short distance for a weekend trip. It's definitely a "nothing to do" kind of place but a really relaxing and romantic spot and the people that run it are terrific.

Fredericksburg, Texas is a nice little get away. I try to take a trip every year. I have gone with my mom, aunts, and cousin's as a mother's day weekend, with other couples, and as a girls weekend and each time we have all had a great time. There are several wineries if you like wine, you can hike up enchanted rock if you are into that sort of thing, stroll thru downtowns shops, take a short trip over to Luckenbach to listen to some music and have a beer.
I have stayed at B&B's everytime. My favorite that I have stayed at is called the Red Stairs. The owner lives in a house next door. (it will be cheaper if you take another couple or 2 along...and it is a 4 bedroom).
My husband and I have also went on a day trip to Turner Falls in Oklahoma which is beautiful.
Grandbury is the next place I'm looking into...

Eureka Springs in northern arkansas is sooo neat. it has a charming downtown w/ shopping and gorgeous B and B's. it's so neat. hot springs, arkansas is a bit closer and it's a neat old town that was developed around a naturally developing hot spring. you can check out the old way of hot baths and get all kind of neat spa treatments for really reasonable. it's located at the foothills of a mountain so the scenery is great as well as hiking. there's also shopping. i also like fredericksburg and jefferson, tx. talk about B&B's-they're all over!!! fun to be had by all. like others, i have also taken my husband to the marriot near the gaylord in grapevine because it's a bit cheaper and they do free shuttle to the downtown where you can walk easily to 4 wineries and do shopping for the day. really neat! Then at night the shuttle took us to dinner at the gaylord and gaylord's shuttle took us to their fun club the glass cactus that night. the only money for transportation was a taxi back to our hotel (make sure you negotiate price b4 getting in!!). we had a wonderful time!
hope that gives you some fun ideas!!

Beavers Bend State Park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma is beautiful! There are hotels, cabin or B&B's in the area. There are nature trails, a nature center, horeseback riding, swimming, golf, tons of things to do. Broken Bow Lake is just a few miles down from the park. Abendigo's restaurant, just outside of Steven's Gap (lake area), is a great place to eat and usually has live music in the evenings on the patio. www.beaversbend.com www.beaversbendgetaways.com www.oklahomaparks.com

Hi there!
I was born in Little Rock and lived in, Arkansas for about 21 years, so I'm going to tell you to go visit there. :-)
Ft. Smith, Arkansas is the home of the infamous “Hanging Judge” Isaac Parker and the character Rooster Cogburn was based on a one-eyed Marshall at the Fort.
The tallest point from the Rockies is Mt. Magazine which has a new lodge to replace the one that burned down years ago -
Mt. Magazine,

Cove Lake area is so pretty, and a nice place to ski, picnic, camp and swim. It’s also close and a wonderful place to take families; I even built some of the hiking paths and tent pads during a summer camp with the Youth Conservation Corp in the late 70's at Cove Lake and Mt. Magazine!
Of course, there's always Hot Springs, which is so pretty and relaxing you'll want to go there every weekend. Great spas, golf, water sports, etc.
Do you like diamonds?! How about FREE ONES?! Well, go the The Crater of Diamonds in Murfreesboro. Bring your shovels; dig and keep what you find. There are experts to tell you if you have an actual diamond or maybe just a really pretty crystal. This is the ONLY place in the world that you have the chance to do this, so it’s really a big deal, and some VERY large diamonds have been found there!
Arkansas has some awesome caves, too.
Arkansas is, I believe, the only state that has all of the natural resources and could sustain itself without importing anything from any other country or state. Not only is there plentiful timber, coal, oil, natural gas, lakes, streams and the Arkansas River, but there are also many minerals mined and exported. ( I can’t remember which minerals but there are several, including whichever one is used to make aluminum and one that is used to make chalk.)
The state is one of the country’s largest rice and soybean producer. And North West Arkansas is home to poultry giant Tyson, which accounts for poultry being a big export as well.
Okay, I sound like an ad! But the hills and valleys in the Ozarks really are beautiful.
So, that’s my 2 cents,
M.

I'll second Fredericksburg. Especially if you like wine or want to learn to like wine. My husband and I had a great time there. The bats are a must see also!!
