We live in Oak Lawn and go to church in Tinley, but our small children go to daycare at Oak Lawn Church of the Nazarene on 91st and Ridgeland. We know a family who attends church there and really like it for themselves and their kids. If we where not already connected with our current church, we would go to Oak Lawn.

HI E.,
I am not sure where exactly you are located but there is a great Christian church in Naperville that I used to attend. Its about 35 min. from Burbank. While I do live on the Northside of Chicago I would travel there about twice a week for services. That trip was about an hour each time. Trust me, I know it sounds crazy but in this day and age we travel farther for work and fun yet aren't willing to drive to be spiritually fed and to make sure our children are being taught correctly. Aside for attending services, I used to serve in their nursery caring for babies up to 12 months and I would watch the children during recovery groups that were held on Fridays. My goddaughter would go to the childrens ministry and she loved it. Its a big ministry and the children are taught in a school type setting. The link is below. Also, I would love to invite you to our church which is a small home based ministry and I lead up the children's ministry. While it is very small my kids are being taught some pretty extensive things. They range in ages from 6 months to 6 yrs old and have just learned and memorized their 10 commandments. Currently we are working on the Apostle's Creed, catechism's and the Armor of God. May the Lord bless you in your search.

My Aunt & cousins and their families go to Evergreen Park United Methodist Church. It's at 94th and Homan (roughly). They have a nursery and sunday school during worship. They have a children's choir and everytime we go they invite my kids to participate. The pastor is a young guy and has a 5 year old and 1 year old so they understand the difficulties. Good luck and God's Blessing.

St Paul's Lutheran Church Burbank or or Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn are two wonderful family congregations. I was a pastoral counselor for both, so I feel I know them well.

Lot's of really great kid stuff for education, growth and spiritual development, during all of the year, and some of it intergenerational.

Not sure how far Homer Glen is from Burbank, but my church (Cross of Glory Lutheran, www.TheWelcomePlace.org) has what we call Kids Klub during the adult sermon time for the kids to go back and get a message for their age (3yrs to 5th grade). They come back into the main church for communion. We are a very contemporary church with a band during services and casual dress.

Good luck finding the right place. We would gladly welcome you by us!

Have you tried Calvin Christan Reform Church on Central at 101st in Oak Lawn? They have what you've described. I have been several times and attend their MOPS program. It's excellent and the folks I've met are caring and wonderful. Good luck.
