Ok so is there really such a detergant/stain remover that gets the stains out the "First Time" like they claim??? I try to catch the stains before they make it in the washer but as we know that doesn't always happen, so when they come out you can't always tell on the wet clothes so they make it to the dryer and when you pull them out you realize there is still a stain on there. UGH!!! Even the ones I pretreat with either Shout or something of the sort still doesn't seem to work. What detergants and stain removers can you suggest?? Thank you in advance for your help.
The best thing for berry stains - real lemon juice
There was a wonderful article in the May or June Working Moms magazine. It had a list of stains and the wonder treatments. The lemon juice is the only one that I remember off the top of my head, it really works!
Boiling hot water on poured on fresh berry stains works wonders! It might work on other things as well. Pour the water from about 8 inches away. Oxy Clean works well too.
I've been really happy with Tide Stain Release.
I love Grandma's Secret Spot Remover. It got the red spots out of my daughter's clothes after they had been washed & dried with a red crayon! & this was even after I had tried unsuccessfully to re-wash & re-dry them a couple times with other detergents & stain removers!
I use the Dreft Stain Remover spray. I prefer to use as ECO friendly of a product I can find but this stuff removes the hardest stains and I can't give it up.
you can also try ivory dishwashing liquid - put it on the spot and just leave it and maybe the next day put some more on there and then wash it...let it soak. if stain is still on there - try shout and then rewash. still there - try ivory again. i did this with carrot stains on my daughters white sweater that i did not know about at first and it went thru the dryer. pulled clothes out and saw big fat stain so i did the above and i kept doing it without drying for a 2nd time until i got the stain out. sweater is as good as new.

My mom swears by the original blue Dawn dishwashing liquid for ALL stains. It's worked for me pretty well.
It's important to know what kind of stain it is before treating.
Peroxide works great for protein-based stains (like blood).
Dish soap works well for treating grease-based stains.
Oxy clean did wonders for a melted crayon.
Alcohol works well for ink.
I've been really happy with OxyClean pretreaters lately. I have a few stains what won't come out to save my life. Even bleach has been ineffective on mystery stains from day care on white shirts. I have one stain that I know is chocolate, but my arsenal of cleaners hasn't been able to get it out of a pair of pajamas (even bleach pens).
I used to recommend the Queen of Clean, but I'm irked that she charges for advice on her site instead of giving a little free in hopes people will purchase her books.
