Ok, we have gone years without a printer b/c they always seem to eat up a ton of ink and just don't work well for us. SO, I'm turning to you for suggestions! Is there a printer/coper out there that doesn't drink ink by the gallon and actually lasts more than a year?! We don't print much at all but it would be nice to be able to if needed!
Thanks!

DON'T buy the cheapest Epson you can find. I went all 'Office Space' on mine because it was the biggest hunk of junk!!

We have a Canon MP450 that is pretty good. We've had it for at least 4 years. I use it 3-4 times a week and only replace the ink maybe once every 6 months. It's an all in one printer. It copies, prints and scans. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't print on photo paper very well. That's something I do a lot so I bought a seperate photo printer.

We have a cannon (after our HP was stolen - ugh) but I love it. It doesn't use nearly as much ink when printing - infact, we have had it about a year and it is just now needing the color cartidge replaced and we do a lot of color printing. I don't know the model, but is is a printer/fax/scanner.
the only thing I don't like is it is a bigger machine. I can live with it though.

We have an Epson Workforce 600 series. LOVE IT.

It is not the cheapest Epson out there.... about $200. You get what you pay for!!!

It has been going strong over 2 yrs now. I love the wireless feature, I can print from anywhere in the house. It is easy set up.. fax, copy, scan, input for photo printing.

We use the higher end Epson ink that advertises better print quality and lasts longer and it does but it is pricy. When I buy ink, I spend about $100 on the large black and 3 colors cartridges, depending on any discounts I have at Staples which are routine since we run our company from home.

I print a lot for our business and my daughter uses it a lot with her homework assignments.

We got it at Best Buy.

That's funny that Rachel didn't like her Epson. I liked mine. It's for sale on Craigslist only b/c we upgraded to one that could print large 11x17 paper. The new one is a Brother and is VERY nice (expensive though). My Epson Stylus CX8400 works great. I like that it copies, prints, I can zoom in or zoom out to resize whatever I'm copying. Ink - we didn't print out a TON but each cartridge lasted a few months - maybe 4 or 5 months each cartridge. I'd try to buy the in when on sale or when Office Max had a "20% off whatever fits in the bag" deal. My dad has a Lexmark. He says it's the best 'bang for the buck' regarding ink and the cost per page to print. But every time I'm over there he seems to be frustrated with it. It has a touch screen and I think it must 'go to sleep' after no-use and Dad (maybe b/c he's old?) gets highly frustrated with it, but then says how much he likes it. So I guess that doesn't help you. But Dad did his research and the ink must be the best deal with the Lexmark.

Do not get an HP or you will be calling customer support everytime you use it! I had a Canon all in one printer and we loved it but after several years it finally died.

After checking with a tech I bought an HP all in one but the thing goes through ink like the national debt! Everytime you insert a new cartridge you have to go through a set up procedure. I have spent hours on the phone with customer support just to be able to print or scan something!

I use a computer at work and I am PC literate however I do not know what HP was thinking when they designed this printer. When it does print the print, the print looks great, very sharp and clear. It's just too difficult to get to that point! Even my grown kids hate it. I will be replacing it with another Canon!

Ink-jet vs Laser Printer.
We had the same concern because we print in color (ink jet) so infrequently (I send photos out for printing).
So we bought a black & white HP LJ M1530 Laser printer that copies, scans, faxes & is wireless.
Epson (ink jet) has a good rep for color printing, my old one sits under a desk because the ink dried out.
