We need to replace our printer and are looking for a printer/scanner combo that doesn't eat through expensive ink cartridges. Any suggestions?

I love our Epson WorkForce 633. Had it for over a year now and it has never had any problems. I think it goes thru ink pretty good - not extra fast or anything. The ink is in different cartridges, so you only replace colors as needed (I think there are 4 different ones). I use it mostly for work, so I replace the black about twice as often as I do the other color ones. The scanner and copier work great and you can access the whole think wirelessly!

We have an Epson Workforce 600 series all in one wireless printer.

I love it. We run our company from home and it is used on a daily basis for printing my invoices, checks, documents, etc. I use the scan feature often and the fax occasionally. Our daughter also does a lot of printing for her school projects, etc. which are usually power point presentations in color.

We paid less than $200 for the printer. When I buy ink, I buy the Epson ink and the cartridges that are a bit more expensive but they do not wear out as quickly. The black cartridge is around $50 and the set of color cartridges are around $50 as well. I do not replace cartridges often... actually I have not purchased any cartridges in at least 6 months (and I use it daily with my business).

We've had no issues with this printer.

I have a Canon printer here in my office that is gathering dust because it was more expensive to use plus it was not wireless. I LOVE the wireless feature and I can print from anywhere in the house.

I can't compare with the Epson but I have an HP photosmart and a cannon MG5320 and both are fairly good with the ink but then again I don't run a home office or anything. I liked the Cannon as it can be set up for wireless, which it is and I like that. The HP is good for pictures and scanning but the Cannon does that too. I don't replace the ink too often. Both have individual cartridges to replace if you use one color more than another.

My suggestion, don't get an ink jet.
Buy a printer that uses toner. It might cost you a little more up front. But you'll save in the long run. Toner lasts MUCH longer and never goes bad.
My MIL had an inkjet and it seemed like every other month I was replacing a ink cartridge - at a hefty price - because one was empty or the head was clogged and wouldn't work. I finally convinced her to buy a laser printer - and it's been over a year and I haven't even replaced the toner once!

I have a Brother HL 2240 which only prints black/white (great if you print online coupons) and uses a toner cartridge. It is super fast and the toner lasts forever!!! If your looking for color and scanner they may have a similar one that meets your needs. I would highly recommend one that uses a toner.

We have a Canon MF8350C, and it has been great. I use it for work, and in the past year that we've had it, I've had to replace the ink once. The ink isn't cheap, but it lasts a long time, and the printer quality is very good. I don't print pictures on it, mostly spreadsheets, letters, etc. Anyway, we've been very happy with it. It has a scanner (with sheet feeder), copier, printer, and fax. It is on our wireless network, and we use Mac, so it's compatible with Mac and PC, if that makes a difference to you.
