Bug Bites and Bruising?

So my son got bug bites on his foot/ankle area (he's 5) They were very itchy and he was rubbing them on the rug to "scratch" them. I'm not sure if they were spider or mosquito, because I didn't see them happen. He had a spider bite before and it got red and warm, and then healed with a bit of bruising, which also healed back to healthy skin.

I'm wondering, is it normal for the bruising to happen? He was rubbing his foot pretty h*** o* the rug - I didn't notice fast enough to stop him right away. He's not complaining too much about pain, just itchiness. And no sign of nastiness that would come from brown recluse.

Any ideas? Thanks moms! If I need to, I'll take him to the school nurse tomorrow to get her opinion. It's our first time with the bug craziness cause last winter was SO mild the bugs are ridiculous like they've never been before.

What can I do next?

Some bug bites do result in bruising especially if one rubs or scratches them hard. It's nothing to be worried about.

It sounds like chiggers, do you guys get them. I swear the itch makes you insane!! I have actually broke the skin where I am bleeding without realizing trying to make it stop. If an adult can mangle themselves without realize it I don't doubt a child could bruise himself.

My son has the exact same thing, mosquito bites around ankles with bruising . I was wondering the same thing but I can tell, he had been scratching them, pretty bad & thinking that could be why or they caused is ankle to swell, causing bruising.

Yes, some bugbites can result in bruising. Sometimes it is unclear as to whether it is because of the bite or the scratching we do. My son and I just experienced a wretched mosquito attack this week. The swelling is the actual bite and the redness is the mosquito's saliva. The 1st day it swelled up in the center and was red around it. It took about 36 hrs for it to shrink down. I have a bit of bruising now as it's healing. My son just discovered his and it is huge. He may be having an allergic reaction, so Im going to have to watch for any symptoms that can cause concern. Here's a trick for the itching...toothpaste. It has to be paste, not gel. It works magic!! A small dab in a circular motion on the actual bite. Let it dry and leave it alone. Give it a try.

Our bug situation has been crazy too because our winter was so mild too. Can't stand it.

When I lived in Texas I would bruise when ever I got bitten by a mosquito which was rather strange and it never happened before or since. The doctor thought it was very strange and said he never saw such a thing. Although I'm very allergic to mosquitos when I was a child and young adult but so much now. Don't know if that was why or not. Your son could be having a sensitive reaction to mosquito bites - usually you can tell the difference between spider bites and mosquito. Keep an eye on him.

I know it sounds weird to say you are or were allergic to mosquitos (guess, in a way everybody is) but it would cause massive swelling, fever and sickness. Not a fun thing to deal with.
