Bite Cause Egg Sized Swelling

My daughter who is 6 was bitten by something, not sure what it was. It does not itch or really hurt unless you touch it. If you take and egg and cut it length wise and stick it on her forehead that is the size of this bump. She was also bitten on her wrist and that swelled up pretty bad. I gave her some Benadryl and applied some topically as well. Anyone have any advice.

What can I do next?

A chicken egg size?!?! I think that is a really large allergic reaction and needs a physician's attention. I wouldn't risk it.

Get her to a doctor ASAP -- don't wait for an appointment in a few days or whatever. The doctor needs to see this while it's still swollen, to get a full idea of what's going on. A spider bite, which can be painful and sometimes serious, was my first thought. This is some pretty big swelling and something she should be seen for right away. Watch her breathing for any trouble, in case her throat is swelling (which you'd never see). That's an allergic reaction to some types of bites. If she has trouble breathing, develops a sudden rash, if the swelling gets worse, etc. I'd take to the ER overnight if it's outside doctor's hours.

Whatever it was she's having an allergic reaction. Benadryl is good, but really keep an eye on it and call the doc if you feel it's getting worse. My grandson is allergic to mosquitoes, he swells really bad when bitten.

This time of year there are "no see um" bugs and they cause quite a swelling. The distinctive telltale sign besides swelling and itch is a trickle of blood. I was bit in my temple once and it caused my entire eye to swell shut! Only treatment is benadryl and ice to sooth it. I would, however, confirm that she is ok with a doctor.

Some little ones have more inflamed reactions to bug bites than others. My grandson reacts the same way to mosquito bites. You might try ice to reduce the swelling. If it starts to itch , you might also try white vinegar. She will smell like a salad, but it really works on taking out the itch. On the really scarey end of this...some people have really bad reactions to ANY bug bites...itching andswelling of the throat to the point they can't breathe. It can get worse the more they get bitten. Maybe you should have it checked out at the doc.

If you know anyone who sells Arbonne products, the Seasource is excellent for bites.

Otherwise, much as I dislike to say, Benedryl will be a quick fix for allergic reaction potential. ERs give it when someone's been stung.

Two years ago my son woke up with a bite on his ear...we couldn't figure out WHAT bit him....we had a Cub Scout event to go to - it started swelling and getting redder and redder...two hours later we were in the Urgent Care as his ear was the size of an egg - it REALLY hurt him....

The Dr looked at him...was going to give him a shot of benedryl - she walked out and he said "mommy my tongue itches..." and he started talking funny...I got the dr immediately...an shot of epiphrene was administered and we were there for 2 hours while he was evaluated....

They couldn't take blood at that time as the epi had been given....we have NEVER figured out what bit him and to this date he has NEVER had the same reaction to any bites...we had his blood drawn the next day and tested for allergies...none could be found....

If the swelling hasn't gone down and it's only getting worse with time - take her to the urgent care.

Good luck!

I get bit and thats what happens to me. I went and got tested for allergies and have to carry an epi pen and benadryl at all times on me. It could be a mosquito, bee, spider doesn't matter. If I get bit it is horrible! I would go get her tested just in case for next time.

It sounds like an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite. Mosquitos carry tons of different thing so you really not sure what she is allergic too just stick with benedryl and or clariton till the swelling goes down,

I think you need to make an appt to see an allergy specialist to have her evaluated for allergies. She may need shots and you may need to carry an epipen and keep on at her school. this kind of swelling often indicates an allergy that doesn't just go away and bites like this probably should be seen in the ER. Meantime, sounds like you did all the right things with the benadryl.

If it's staying red and not turning colors, getting bigger, or hurting or getting pussy, then it's just a reaction to the bite. But keep a close eye for anything that would indicate a brown recluse bite or infection like from a spider.

It could be either an allergic reaction or it's infected (since it's tender) I wouldn't mess around. I'd head to the er. If she's developing an infection the sooner she starts antibiotics the better.
Oh and you should not give benedryl and use benedryl ointment at the same time!

I'm just reading this today. If you haven't gone to the doctor, please go, if the swelling hasn't subsided. Also, if the area feels hot or is painful. Trick I learned from the doctor last year is to take a marker and draw a ring around the swollen area. It's easier to moniter the swelling.

Good luck!
