11 Month Old Allergic to Dairy and Weaning from Breastfeeding

Hello, My 11 month old son has been exclusively breastfed (he takes breast milk from a bottle at day care). I would like to work on weaning him in the next couple of months, however, I don't know what to wean him onto. I know that babies normally go to whole cow's milk, but he seems to be allergic to dairy. He developed a contact skin rash on his face and constipation when I introduced yogurt at 7 months. A couple of weeks ago, I was short on breast milk so without thinking I sent him to day care with some milk-based formula that had...

Adverse Reaction to Epi-pen Jr.

Hi moms, Last weekend, I fed my son whole wheat pasta, green peas, with homemade carbonara sauce (milk, egg, basil, parmesan cheese). All of these ingredients, he has had some way before, but never with carbonara sauce. Almost immediately, he began rubbing his eyes, getting the sauce all over his face and into his eyes, and he began swelling pretty intensely, but he was breathing fine. We went to urgent care, where they gave him benadryl orally, which he promptly vomited. Then, they gave him an epi-pen jr. shot. My son cried for a...

Dealing with Peanut and Dust Mite Allergies with Young Son

Hi - I found this site as I was looking for help online about peanut allergies. We just found out my son (16 months) has a peanut allergy and also dust mite allergy. I never thought he would have a problem - no family history and his older sister has no food allergies. But I guess you never know. It's just a little hard for me to accept because I never had any allergies at all and the peanut allergy is so scary. I am getting ready for a life of never (or hardly ever) going out to restaurants, ice cream parlors, really getting food...

HELP! 4 Yr Old with a Food Allergy?? (She's NEVER Had Them.) Pls. Read.

I'm a little worried. My little girl recently broke out in hives on her arms. We thought it was from some paint she'd used earlier that day. So we washed her arms and applied calamine lotion thinking it was just a "sensitivity" or residue that wasn't washed off well enough and caused some irritation. (She has had sensitive skin issues off and on.) Then at dinnertime we notice more hives on her thighs and feet. We realized this was more than paint residue/irritation. After talking about it, my husband told me she tried some new honey...

Epi-pen Jr. in an Airport (And Some Liquid Questions)

My 19 month old son has a food allergy and we must carry an epi-pen jr. around with us at all times. Is there any special consideration we have to take when traveling by plane? I can see security claiming that it is a weapon or something like that since there is a needle, but at the same time, it is a rescue medication that is required to be with my son at all times. Also, because my son's food allergy, he usually cannot eat food out. I will be packing him some of his favorites since we will be traveling for breakfast and lunch. Is...

Too Early for Peanut Butter?

My son is almost 18 months old, and I am really wanting to try peanut butter with him. Our doctor had said to wait until he is 3, but I think that is a little crazy. My son is a VERY picky eater, and is is difficult to get him to eat, period. I am hoping that peanut butter might be something he enjoys. Any thoughts?
