I am a single mom of a 4 year old little boy. He is my life and my sweetheart. He has made me a better person. I am trying to find a job opportunity that legitimate and a work from home job. I am just getting ready to graduate in May 2008 with an Associates in Computer Science with Cisco Networking emphasis. I know there are many scams out there and I am hoping someone can tell me about something I can do even part-time from home. I am in the Kansas City Metro area.

What can I do next?

I just got hired on at Quest Diagnostics for the part time at home position. You can go to their website and find this. However they have solid hours that you have to work.....Tues-Friday 5pm-9pm however it's from home but you have to have a quite place to work. They provide you with the computer and even come to your home to set it up. they don't have very many positions left for this, however I recommend just going straight there with your resume if you are interested. It's in Lee's Summit at 50hwy and Chipman Road. They will interview you right there when you go in.
Good Luck....also they provide you with health ins., 401K, and dental!!!!

IT is very different from the "work from home" scams you keep hearing about. IT is a very legitimate work from home opportunity and there are many companies that do allow people to work from home. Some even encourage it. I work from home in the IT field and couldn't be happier about it. Its technically called "telecommuting" in the biz. It really depends on what area of computer science you are proficient in. Are you a developer, architecht, or mostly systems hardware? IBM is a company that encourages telecommuting but it really depends on the job. My advice would be to go through your schools placement programs with emphasis on finding a telecommuting job. I wouldn't rule other jobs out right now though, IT is a very competitive market due to outsourcing offshore. Its possible you'll have to get some experience under your belt and then can go for the exact job you want. Also, I would contact the IT contract companies and they can headhunt for you. Let them know you're interested in working from home. Email me and I can give you some companies to contact. Good luck!

Hi A.,

I work from home very part-time for a health benefits company called AmeriPlan. Although it's not an IT position, it's a great company that gives us the ability to earn from home on our own schedule. I currently still work full-time as an accountant and work my AmeriPlan business when I can (typically after my boys are down for the night and a little on the weekends). What I love most about this company is that I don't have to host parties or beg my friends and family to "buy" from me. What we have to offer is not "luxury" items ~ healthcare is very much in need in today's world and that is something that I can feel good about!!

If you would like more information about it, feel free to email me at ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-####. You can also check out my website at: www.freedomathometeam.com/40550162. Good luck in your search!!

A., someone else posted a similar question on January 18th. The title of the post is called The Mom Team, because the original post was asking whether anyone had heard of the at-home-work opportunity called The Mom Team. Although many of the posts address the question directly - discussing whether or not The Mom Team is a fraud, some of them actually suggested other at-home opportunities. Lots of people answered, so you might want to go see what other ideas there were.

I have a cousin who works from home. I recently asked her about it for another friend looking for an at-home opportunity. Here's what she says about her situation:

"Have your friend check out these companies:

http://www.alpineaccess.com/external/careers/

http://www.liveops.com

Here's what she said about working for LiveOps: "Thing is, you have to work your way up. Money isn't instantaneous. I work 5.5-6 hrs daily, seven days a wk, and I'm, after 4 yrs., in one of the top groups. We pay our own taxes, etc. I make on avg $3k/ Mo, which is pretax dollars.

I have a couple of friends working Alpine. They just work for a single client, like GE, or AAA or an airline. This is much easier for most people, cause you don't have to sell and be very familiar with a host of different products."

I don't know if this interests you at all, since you have a degree and probably want to use it, but good luck to you.
