The later you see those precious toothies the healthier they will be and the longer they will last, thus the healthier the adult will be and the longer they will last. That's what my Nanna and my Mother-in-law (both dental hygenists) say.

I guess all babies are just different. My son's first tooth came out when he was 5 months. He is now 8 months and working on tooth # 5 & 6. Usually the first sign is drooling. My son started drooling non-stop when he was 3 months old and hasn't stopped since!

My son popped 6 out in the same month when he was about 9 months old and hasn't done a thing since! I guess all babies are different!

I wanted to add... Don't worry that when he does get teeth that you will have to quit breastfeeding. My son is 14 1/2 months old and I still breastfeed him. He's only bitten me once. And, yes it hurt & I screamed.. lol BUT once he saw that it hurt me he never did it again.

I'm glad that breastfeeding is going well for you. Isn't it wonderful? I'm sad that we have to quit soon. They grow up too fast!

Don't worry so much my oldest daughter was 14 months
old before she got her first tooth. Man! I was just like you
I was so worried that she wasn't going to get any.But I asked
the county nurse that gave her her shots about it and she said
not to worry that some kids get them early and some don't. They say that the later they get there teeth in the better they
are. My daughter is now 24 and has pretty good teeth. Altho she did have to wear braces. Well I hope that helped.bye

Can't answer your question, but hopefully you'll feel better knowing there are others out there with your same concern. My daughter is 10 mos, and also hasn't broken any teeth yet. Many times she's gone through bouts of copious drooling and we thought, "AHHA"--then nothing. I've been told by her pediatrician that she really doesn't start worrying until a child is 18 mos. Also have read that it tends to be genetic and recently found out that my husband's sister's 3 kids didn't have teeth until after age of 1. I guess we should just relax for a little longer-ugh. Good luck!

my son got teeth when he was 4 months old. my sister-in-law's daughter is 8 months old and just got her first teeth. i think you may be quite lucky that he has no teeth yet since you breastfeed, those little buggers hurt.

Since you are breastfeeding, be THANKFUL that he doesn't have teeth yet! :) My nephew didn't get any teeth until he was 13 months old and he's a year and a half and only has 3 teeth. Don't worry, each child develops differently.

dear new mom,

I wouldn't worry so much. I am the mother of three, ages 6,4,2 and my 6 and 4 year old got their teeth at somewhat the normal times, however my 2 year old, still doesn't even have her two year molars yet. She did not get any teeth until she was a year old! Anyway, the dentist said that she is perfectly normal and that her teeth are actually going to be healthier, since they didn't come in until later and got to absorb more calcium. Hope this helps.

my son didn't get his first tooth till he was 15 months old, then got only 6 teeth, then he got the other 10 at 23 months. Denist said the longer they stay in the gums the healthier the teeth will be. Don't hesitate feeding him table food because of it either. My son could gum just about everything.

The longer a child goes before cutting teeth, the more likely they are to have stronger, healthier teeth in the future. My daughter's dentist told me this at her first dentist appointment. Just be thankful that your little tyke doesn't have those sharp little teeth while your breastfeeding. I tried to go for 6 months and made it 2. I commend you on going as long as you have.

all 3 of my kids did not have teeth or hair till they were 12 months. Both my husband and I were the same way. I was once told by a dentist that one good thing about getting teeth late is it gives the jaw time to grow to fit all the teeth hopefully avoiding braces.

Every baby devolopes at a different rate. My oldest son started cutting teeth at 2 months. My middle daughter did not cut her first tooth in until she was 18 months, trust me I thought I was going to have to get baby dentures for her :) LOL. My youngest son started at 8 months. There is no set time or pattern to teeth cutting every child developes at different speeds. He will get his teeth when it is time for him to get his teeth. No worries :).

Since all of my children got their teeth early, my best friend was concerned that her daughter did not have a single one by her first birthday. That is perfectly normal! All babies differ. My oldest got his first four teeth within two days of each other at the age of FOUR MONTHS! My youngest son and their baby sister did not get teeth until they were seven months old. Still pretty early, but very different from their brother. My friend's daughter got her first tooth around fourteen months. She is now three and has a beautiful, toothy smile! You have nothing to worry about. Just enjoy your son and all the other wonderful developments he is experiencing. They all happen so fast!
