Wheat/Gluten Free Snack Ideas for a 9 Month Old

We have reason to believe that our 9 month old daughter could possibly have a wheat intolerance. Her pediatrician recommended we hold off on these foods for a while. I need easy, wheat and gluten free snack ideas! Cheerios were a lifesaver with my son. Does anyone out there have any ideas? I do give her Baby Mum-Mum Rice snacks but I'm looking for something small so she can work on her pincer grip. I thought about Rice Crispies but they may be too small and I prefer something organic/preservative free. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I know our local HEB has a section (albeit very small) that has some wheat/gluten free foods. One food they have is called Perky O's or something like that. They're basically Cheerios.

You may also want to check your local Sun Harvest and see what they have.

My son is gluten/dairy/corn/soy free. He's always enjoyed silver dollar pancakes made with GF mixes (Namaste, Pamelas, etc.). I'd cook up a huge batch mixed with pureed veggies then freeze them. They're awesome! I also make mini biscuits with pureed veggies in them which also freeze well. Any corn and/or rice cereal is good (just be sure they don't contain sneaky barley flour). We do lots of smoothies as well - another place to hide healthy stuff :) Envirokidz makes rice crispy bars that are a healthier GF option (no corn syrup). Rice noodles are fantastic and cook quick - spaghetti, lasagna, etc. There's some mac-n-cheese (or no cheese if you're avoiding dairy) made from rice noodles these days too that are great (Annies or Road's End mac-n-chreeze). Glad to hear you have a smart doctor, most don't think of nutrition recommendations, your kiddo is off to a great start!

Hi Brandy-

My 6 year old is on a gluten free diet as well. Try the organic or health food section of your grocery store. There are a lot of gluten free cereals available. My son has always liked the Envirokidz brand of cereals. They also make animal crackers that are gluten free and organic. Van's makes a wheatfree frozen waffle that is good for cutting up like the other mom suggested.

Good Luck,
K.

What about gerber puffs? They come different ways sweet potato and fruit flavored. You could try corn or rice chex, but she might be too small for those?? They also sell dried fruit snack, or you could cut up bite size pieces of fruit or veggie so she can work on her grip! At that age I cut up toasted waffles...not sure if they contain wheat? I am usually better at this, but my brain is fried!!
