A board book of classic fairy tales and a companion Little Red Riding Hood/Grandma/Wolf 3-in-1 doll would delight any 3 year old girl. They can be found at www.toysofdiscovery.com

Hi R.,
If everyone knows she like Dora, then she's bound to get a lot of Dora stuff. If I'm unsure, I usually go with art supplies. Crayons, markers, paper, etc. They make some now called Colorwonder. The markers only work on the paper that you're suppose to use them on so walls and furniture are safe :o) If your neice's mom doesn't mind a mess, you could go with playdoh. My son just turned 3 in January and he loves playdoh, but you have to be ready for the clean up. You could also get her some books or a gift certificate to a book store so she can pick out her own new books.

Hi R.,

I would suggest taking her out for the day to do toddler activities. I recently looked up some stuff to do with my son who will be two on the 20th. At the Children's Museum in Manhattan, they have an entire day for toddlers planned out. They have all sorts of great stuff for their age group.
If this is not possible, then you can check Amazon or Target for a ll sorts of great Dora stuff. My son has the Diego Quad. They sell a Dora Quad at Walmart and I believe Toys R Us. I guess it depends on what you think she might be most into. Ask her parents what her three most favorite things to do are and base your gift on that.

Hope this helps.

Hello R.,

My little girl just turned 3 too and I was searching for months what to get her :)
I had to make sure it fit in my budget (I didn't want to go over $100) and it had to fit into my tinny house.
She is into Thinker Bell and everybody got her "everything and anything" Thinker Bell (dolls, movies, bed sheets, outfits, costumes with wings, colors and sticker books...)
So, I kind of figured that will happened and I was looking to get something different and this was my list (well, these are also items that she kept on asking for when we went shopping):

I would take her out for the day...a special day..just you and her....a park, the zoo, a picnic...read to her, a candle in her favorite cup-cake, finger paint with her etc. etc....special quality time spent is the best gift in the world...no matter how old one is, it's always remembered and better then a gift she'll out grow and forget who gave her what.....

I just gave my nearly 3 year old niece a cool activity book (learning to draw, write letters, color, stickers, etc.) and a set of coloring pencils. It's something a little different and a gift that should grow with her.

Dress-up and dramatic play clothes/toys are a big hit in our house (2 girls 3 and 5). Target has a great line of really cute things. I just saw that they have a little baking set with an apron, chefs hat and other stuff!!

My three year old niece ADORED the puzzles and dress up clothes she got for her birthday. They don't have to be a certain brand - a 3 year old won't care. Hit up the thrift shop for some fun stuff...3 year olds have active imaginations!

My 3 yo daughter was recently given a Dora floor puzzle from Target that's just great. It's an alphabet puzzle, with a character or item from Dora for each letter. But the best part is that it's not typical "jigsaw" shapes that fit together -- one is a heart, one is a diamond, etc., so it's unambiguous and great for kids starting to do floor puzzles. Additionally, dress-up outfits (even old clothes of yours - hats, bags, etc. - doesn't have to be store-bought), art supplies, stickers... there's also a tea set sold at Target that is made of recycled plastic. I'd have bought that for my daughter if she didn't already have one. ;)

My daughter also likes cars, trucks, blocks, legos (duplos at this age), so it doesn't have to be traditionally "girl" toys. In general we try to go with classic toys that inspire imagination and creativity, but that Dora puzzle is great too! Good luck and have fun.

At 3, my daughter liked basic craft sets, books and play sets - the type that came with some kind of little house and mini dolls. A backpack full of art supplies/books would be a fun gift and could be Dora themed.

with the weather improving I know I am hoping my daughter gets some things to use out doors for her birthday the end of this month. Her aunt is getting her Dora helmet and knee pads. Other ideas -sidewalk chalk, soccer, golf or tee ball sets. Bathing suit and cordinating towel, with a pool or sprinkler toy. Anything crafty, jewelery making kits, stamps (huge hit), playdoh with cookie cutters. Snap on Dolls, Mr. Potato Head, Magna Doodle. All of these can be super thrifty or you can get crazy and splurge, so good luck!
